Forums - Nintendo Discussion - The cuts for the Sw/Sh dex were worse than even the most pessimistic predictions

Problem is. I really only care to do a few things in a Pokemon game. Play the story, run around the aftergame bit and transfer over all my Hoenn Pokemon. That last bit is very important to me. I completely skipped Sinnoh so I probably played Ruby/Emerald the most out of any game I ever owned.

It was hard to digest at first, but after watching how Sword/Shield is probably the biggest upgrade on a Pokemon game, I believe the cut is justifiable, or worth it at least.

However, the greatest beauty of Pokemon games is the after game, which will be severly downgraded by the big cut. I just hope there is more in there than just the 400 Gallar Dex.

I believe the chances of getting the rest as DLC are very high. We are live in the add-on era, and for a game that is selling more than 10m, resources and effort is not an excuse. You get our money, hire more and do it. As for the balance issue, they can always cut moves and downgrade overpowered pokemon to keep the balance. Pokemon is about Gotta Catch'em all!!

It's not an upgrade at all, even graphically.

Sun and Moon looked better than this. ORAS looked better than this. Every DS/GBA instalment looked better than this. The Let's Go games looked better than this.

Scaling is fucked too, look how tiny Snorlax and Wailord are.

Wailord's supposed to be 48'10", the second largest Pokemon there is. It's dwarfed by a 10 year-old.

Dammit, we haven't had a scale correct Wailord since Battle Revolution.

Also, what's with the super dense weather effects? At some points you can't see where you're going, is this just to hide the draw distances?

You know it deserves the GOTY.

You're comparing oranges to apples. Silen Hill is a horror game, and not knowing where you're going or what you can find helps the atmosphere. Pokemon is not a horror game, it's an RPG in which exploration in search for pokemon and items plays a fundamental part, especially now that they are focusing so much on the open world aspect of it.

Climbing ladders freezes all characters in the overworld. This is more than broken, it's advanced broken.

The scaling I'll guve you but that problem isn't exclusive to Sword and Shield. It was in Sun and Moon as well.

Graphically it is on par with Lets Go but has a different art style. However the battle areans do look bland, but again that is true of most games. The exception is Let Go.

I don't care too much about the DEX cuts, but if your excuse for cutting is to polish the rest of the game then you better polish the rest of the game. I was positive up until the last leak. The wild area is way too small, the game is way too short, there is very little end-game content, no GTS, the same bs hand-holding from Sun and Moon, mandatory exp-share, the world is linear, you get healed every few battles (no need for potions), graphics are inconsistent, Pokemon aren't scaled properly, animations are atrocious ports of the 3DS generations - look up the legendary cut-scene where one of the Pokemon spins like a clock to turn around. And the game is $60 instead of $40 (or $30) as previous titles were.

This is the first mainline Pokemon game I'll be buying used when the price is $30 or lower (or not at all if they release an improved third version.) Gamefreak obviously is not interested in Pokemon anymore and should just hand it off to Nintendo who has the resources to make something decent.

I see that they got so invested in dinamax (Wich is no big deal at all) that forgot to actually improve the rest of the game. I am not saying the game is bad. It is just really disappointing.
There are so many features that they could add to improve world exploration and puzzles, like controlling Pokemon and using their abilities. That would be way more awesome than a battle gimmick that nobody asked for... They even cut the Pokemon real scale so dinamax looks more impressive... That's pretty underwhelming
