Lol that doesn't really paint a better picture for Sony with -2.8B in 2012.

Anyway to be fair, today things should be much better with PS4 actually making a profit per unit sold and more importantly, income from subscriptions, which have netted Sony a lot of money in the PS4 generation.

No it doesn't lol. I wish I could find the original source of these charts, rather than just being redirected to random neogaf links, to see if there is an updated through 2019 one. Otherwise, I could try to go through the annual reporting calls for each company to find their profit, but that may be difficult with Sony and Microsoft because they don't just sell games and gaming hardware.

The loss for 2012 isn't representative of the PS business because there was a short period where PS got lumped into one division with other products that obviously didn't do well.

Similarly, all of Microsoft's numbers come with the catch that Xbox was never a division on its own, so the results always included other products and services, be it successful or not successful ones.

While cumulative profits/losses can't be compiled for an accurate comparison, the spread between the three companies is so big that Nintendo is the clear #1, Sony the clear #2 and Microsoft the clear #3.

Ah yes, I remember something like that. Makes sense then. Well, as an explanation for this number anyway.

Most impressive. I don't think they will ever hit 1 billion though. I really do think the tenth generation (PlayStation 6) will be the final hardware generation of gaming. Different gaming PCs and cloud devices will kill off traditional platforms by then.
The Switch can probably bring Nintendo up to 800 million, but no guarantee.

So people are going to suddenly no longer like playing Mario, Zelda, etc....?

Maybe enough governments will determine that a stereotypical Italian plumber saving the world by eating mushrooms and crushing in the skulls of his enemies to save the Aryan princess is too politically incorrect and ban them from bring sold on liberal enough countries?

By the user called ratolmc that mentioned sales of PS home consoles? Yeah, I guess he was quite entertaining.

I wouldn't say this thread nor D'Angelo's article have been swarmed by downplayers though as ratolmc literally is the only user not congratulating Nintendo/praising Nintendo's profits compared to PS/Xbox. And that's a good thing! I see far too many downplayers in other threads. Some users could learn a thing or two :)

Yeah. Profitwise nintendo is a behemoth. The other rivals, Sony and Microsoft, is behemoth companies per se. Sony is the innovative Japanese company in the late 70s and 80s. And a great game company. Microsoft is a software genius company, in PC space. And have too much money.

By this point the main users here on VGChartz who constantly downplayed Nintendo (Quickrick, Lawlight, Kerotan) have been banned; when they were around these kind of threads would be completely derailed every time.
