What's with all the overshiped talk? I can understand if they only shipped like 1M-1.5M units this past quarter. But, they shipped almost 3M units. In a slower part of the year. Stores aren't taking that much stock. I think it's pretty obvious that sales are just dropping because we are close to marking the 3-year point of PlayStation 4 not getting any price cuts.

As for the adjusted forecast, I'm guessing we're not getting a price cut this year. I suppose they're going to wait till next year to drop it buy $100.

Dropping price I don't think make much sense, sales will probably barely increase and Sony will lose a lot of profit doing so, it's coming to an end. Let's w8 for next-gen :)

Maybe we'll see a lower priced PS4 when it will be the entry level Sony console and need a wider difference from PS5. By then it will be dirt cheap to build, even more if they'll make a super slim version.

Hmm shipments down almost 30% YoY.

Are we looking at 115-120mil lifetime sales for the PS4?

131,5M

Playing this month : Death Stranding, Gears 5 and Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order.

I think they will announce the price cut to $199 for SLIM 1 TB and $299 for Pro 1 TB when they announce PS5 in February.

Looks like i was right in saying they overshipped last quarter (Q1-flat, Q2-down ~28%).

With that said, these are still great numbers, over 100 million hardware and over 1 billion software is a huge achievement and their subscription services are showing solid growth.

Not sure I entirely agree.

SW was also flat/ up YoY for the PS4 in Q1. But Q2 saw a drastic drop (-18%) in SW sales. I don't think SW can be overshipped, so I think it lines up well with the HW also being shipped flat YoY. Sure Sony might have shipped a few 100k or so extra for the 100m, but I wouldn't really call it overshipped.

That would be a good point to do it.  Announce it in Feb, but drop it after the FY, which could lead to them predicting shipments being flat for next FY, or just slightly down.  All I know is that they have to be making a killing on HW sales.  They probably make a small profit with the $199 BF deals, but they have been selling it for $299 for almost 3 year, now.  Maybe storing up profits since they are going to take a decent sized loss ($100-$150) on PS5 HW.

Good point and I definitely agree.  There's only so much Sony can do to try to convince people to take extra stock.  Retailers aren't just going to have boxes upon boxes laying around, unless they are ramping up for Xmas, which definitely wasn't the case.  And I really don't see Sony worrying about that at this point.  Would it really matter if they announced 100M shipped then, or had to announce it just a week or so later?  I don't think so.

It's just a slow time of the year.  People are saving up for Xmas, where they can get the PS4 for $199.  And the amount of gamers who will buy it for $299 is just reaching a saturation point.

Congrats to the best Games-System, the PlayStation 4!
And the next big Games are coming: Death Stranding, Shenmue 3, NiOh 2, Persona 5 Royal, Yakuza Collection, The Last of Us 2, Cyberpunk 2077, Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Yakuza 7 and many more :)

I would be lying if I say Final Fantasy VII is not the most anticipated game I'm have been waiting.

Its hard to say ^^ The new FF7 Remake is bigger and has more details/effects - that sounds great in my opinion :)

Two Fightsystems are possible for the Remake, i hear ??!
