Not possible. Consoles are dead. Mobile gaming is all that matters now.

over 1 billion software wow!

Indeed it is phenomenal, knowing that only the PS2 has achieved this feat in the past.

As expected, Sony did indeed overshipped last quarter to reach that milestone. Going from 15'0M to 13'5M is a huge drop. It seems Sony won't produce too much deals this holiday season either. So PS4 should end the year selling 14'5M to consumers by the end of the year and then a huge drop during Jan-March 2020 compared to 2019. This seems to be due to TLOU 2 being pushed back to May. Despite all of this, software numbers remains super impressive and total profits are even higher than a year before, so good news for Playstation brand.

People pay too much attention to hardware total sales...To me is even more important the amount of software sales you have. That represents better how really important is the console to consumers and developers, and Sony have the 4 best selling software consoles of all time, including handhelds. That's why trying to give lessons to Sony about tactics they should do about exclusives, 1st party portofolio, adquisitions, ... it's just super ....."unnecessary" to be polite. They're the best doing this thing, by far, and they have been the best since the last 25 years. They'll do fine with PS5....

PS4 now will enter the farewell season of its life. It seems Sony doesn't care about discounts so probably won't see any even until PS5 launch. The console will still sell/ship around 115M by the time PS5 launches, at least, and it's most certain the console will reach 120M lifetime in the end. Software sales will be close to 1500M too, and profits coming from PSN section will put total software profits way ahead of what PS2 accomplished.

It's the best succesful/profitable console Sony has ever made, and there's really nothing more to say.

Looks like i was right in saying they overshipped last quarter (Q1-flat, Q2-down ~28%).

With that said, these are still great numbers, over 100 million hardware and over 1 billion software is a huge achievement and their subscription services are showing solid growth.

Yeah, Sony did overship the PS4 last quarter to break the 100M barrier.
That forecast drop tho... moving TLoU2 to FY 2020 is that big of an impact?

I think TLOU is only part of the drop because there is no way that game alone was going to cause 1.5 million people to buy a PS4 in just over a month.

I would have to assume a downward forcast was going to happen regardless but TLOU delay made it somewhat worse.

What's with all the overshiped talk? I can understand if they only shipped like 1M-1.5M units this past quarter. But, they shipped almost 3M units. In a slower part of the year. Stores aren't taking that much stock. I think it's pretty obvious that sales are just dropping because we are close to marking the 3-year point of PlayStation 4 not getting any price cuts.

As for the adjusted forecast, I'm guessing we're not getting a price cut this year. I suppose they're going to wait till next year to drop it buy $100.

Shipments were flat YoY last quarter and down almost 30% YoY this quarter, unless PS4 interest just all of a sudden declined over the summer than its safe to say that they overshipped last quarter.

I'm just sad about they lowering the projection and also that it seems like they won't budge on not giving a price cut. Probably would be the highest average revenue per HW Sony ever had even with PS3 starting at a much higher price point, but discounted much faster.

Guess Sony not only saw no pressure from competitors, but even their metrics must have been met without needing to be aggressive, more money for them, less consoles and good deals for customers.
