Forums - Movies & TV - George Lucas reacts to The Rise of Skywalker trailer (Parody)

I'm still wondering how the rebel alliance, erm, resistance allowed the empire, erm, first order to form and then build a whole new death star bigger than the old one.

Maybe they used a planet-sized drape to cover it and hide it from the resistance?

Where does this weird idea that the prequel-trilogy wasn't actually that bad in hindsight come from? Even at their worst this Disney-trilogy has been nowhere near as insufferable awful as The Phantom Menace or Attack of the Clones were. Revenge of the Sith was at least decent, for the most part, but that doesn't really mean much after the first two movies. Is it just nostalgia towards films people saw when they were kids or something?

I'm 43. I watched the OG trilogy as a kid and thought Jedi was great, A New Hope was boring, and Empire didn't have a conclusion. Of course, at the time, the idea of a movie that didn't stand alone didn't make sense to me.

In 1999, I actually fell asleep during my first viewing of Phantom Menace and thought it was terrible, thought Clones was fantastic (if you were in that audience when Yoda fought Darth Tyrannous...), and Sith was spectacular. I didn't know the latter two were even considered bad until the internet told me that they were and pointed out all of the problems.

Now I see TPM as "establishing the universe", AotC as raising the stakes/character building, and RotS as tying everything together. I love all three and watch all 6 back to back annually, at least.

With Ep 7, I thought "This is just the original again. It doesn't really add anything but it's kinda fun, though." and with Ep 8, I thought "I don't actually like anyone in this film and I kinda never want to watch it again".

I'm going to be right there on opening day for Ep 9, though. The trailer looks really good and maybe they can finish strong.

That's fine. I have no problem with people disagreeing with my opinion. For me The Phantom Menace just got worse every time I rewatched it. AotC was even worse, and unlike with episode 1 that was from the very first time I saw it. Revenge of the Sith saved what little it could and was actually somewhat enjoyable, but it was still weighed down by having to untangle the mess that the two previous films had made. There are a total of two characters in the entire trilogy that are actually interesting (Obi-Wan and Palpatine), and the rest are just various levels of insufferable. I just prefer to ignore their whole existence and just watch the original trilogy every once in a while.

For me it's kinda the opposite with the prequels vs. the new series. The new series has its issues, but I at least have nothing against the idea of rewatching them, whereas I don't feel like I ever want to see the prequel trilogy again.

Disney movies, regardless of plot decisions, at least feel like they're in the same universe as the OT -- gritty, lived in universe sci-fi with some fantasy. They feel tonally similar.

The prequels felt like a dumb ass cartoon specifically made for 8 year olds with a completely over the top tone. "Mooie Mooie meessa wessa" "Yousa no not likin' the Goooooooogans?!!!! MEEEEEESA like yousa!". "Ahhhhhhh yesssssssss, General Kenoooooobi ... I'm better than Count Dooooooooooookoooooooo". "Nooooooooooooooooooooo". "I hate sand it gets everywhere".

Jeezus George.

Even the Clone Wars cartoon, which is an actual cartoon was not that cartoony.

Nothing tops Luke milking an alien's teets. xD

It's supposed to show the transition from a clean beautiful era under the Republic to a gritty dirty era under the Empire. Maybe they failed but that was the point.

Well for me there is only one trilogy of Star Wars, watched the rest but consider they just white noise, ripples in the galaxy.

The strange thing I see between original movies and the prequel is how the technology devolved a lot if you follow chronology of the movie, we know that it was just because better stuff were available for the prequels. But we can pretend it is a semi-apocalyptic time in the original trilogy even more for the rebels that had to scrape by to get stuff.

What doesn't make sense yet for the new trilogy is how after peace was made again, how they lost control of everything so fast (and they will probably make another trilogy to tell how they gone from 6 to 7).

So you like these movies because they have no plot either,or why are you going back to those movies to defend these ones ?

You have fanboys of everything liking things better than others but one bad product does not make another good and i do not think Holodust said he considered the prequels to be good movies.

I think you wanted to reply to someone else. ;)

But yeah, I don't consider prequels to be good either, but at least they didn't try to offend my inteligence (as much) with this nonsensical characters that Disney's mainline SW movies pack (disclaimer: I actually somewhat liked Rogue One).

Oh yeah sorry,it was meant for Soundwave!

And the thing is that the casting is great but they do not even use them at half potential like Gwendoline Christie as Captain Phasma and she can be so great but just did not get the opportunity and time to shine.
