Forums - Gaming Discussion - PS4's last year: The best finale for a console ever?

BraLoD said:
PS1, 1999:
Silent Hill, Final Fantasy VIII, Ape Escape, Persona 2: Innocent Sin, Driver, Syphon Filter, Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, Crash Team Racing, Grand Theft Auto 2, Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage!, Medal of Honor, Chrono Cross, Gran Turismo 2...
But none of those mean nothing, because 1999 was the year the best game ever was released: The Legend of Dragoon.
Sorry, nothing comes close.

That was a massive year with incredible games indeed.

It all depends on how they turn out but I doubt it will pass 2013 for PS3 ( not even counting what released during holidays 2012):
GTA 5
TLOU
Bioshock infinite
Tomb Raider reboot
Rayman legends
Ni no kuni
Assassins creed 4
DMC devil may cry
Splinter Cell Blacklist
Dragons crown
GT6
Metal gear rising
Saints row 4
God of war Ascension
Metro
Ratchet and clank into the nexus
A tales of game
A disgaea
And of course a bunch I may be missing

Well this can be said to be an incredible lineup for the last active year of a console.

There will be plenty of cross gen titles I suspect.
Its not on its last years by any means.

What do we know of the Switch in 2021 onwards? because 2019 and 2020, PS4 looks favorable to the Switch (imo).
Whos to say the Switch future is any brighter than the PS4's at this point?

People need to stop treating it like its already done.

I dunno. When do you consider Dreamcast's last year?

Considering that the OP seems to think the last year for a system is the date the next gen machine comes out from the same manufacturer.... then the Dreamcast is still alive and well.

I think the OP knows very well that the PS4 will continue to sell for two or three years. The point of the thread wasn't to debate about when the PS4 will go off the shelf, but whether or not it's last year as Sony's flagship console is going to great. Of course, I think you very well knew that.

I dunno, Don Mattick was still out there telling people to buy an Xbox360 after the Xbox 1 dropped.

You have inflated the number of releases with some games that aren't that relevant.

Well sure there will be plenty of cross in the first and maybe even 3rd year. But that isn't what we are focusing on.

We can only talk on the now. Right now PS4 seems to have the best last formal year on SW, Switch certainly could surpass it we can't say otherwise even if we ignore Nintendo cutting support early on several of the previous HW.

I know gaming is subjective and all, but I have to disagre with this.

In the last year of the console Nov 2019 - Nov 2020. We have

  1. Death stranding
  2. TLOU2
  3. FF7R
  4. CyberPunk
  5. GoT

And you compare that to just GTA5 and TLOU (well GT6 also came out in that year so let's not forget that)? And what makes it even better is that unlike with te PS3 in which only two of the three big releases that year was exclusive but in this case four of five games are exclusive. Nope... I honestly can't think of a better send off. And every game on that list has the potential of being at least 6M sellers. And that's me being conservative.

Well I'd go for quality over quantity. As in I'd take 1 truly amazing game (which both GTA 5 and TLOU were) over 5 really good games. Although that said, it's too early to really say with those games anyway. We know how good the PS3s last year was, we've experienced it and played the games already. Are the games for the PS5s final year going to live up to expectations? It certainly could be a better final year with the lineup it's got, but I just think it's unlikely all of those games will be absolutely amazing.

I can tell you that at least three of those games will be amazing. Depending on our preferences though. But if you are one of those GTA is life people then nothing will be as good for you either way. I don't even lie GTA games, I haven't played GTA5.

And in a year that I get TLOU2 and FF7R? Idk man... and I have a god feeling about cyberpunk. Then again I shouldn't even be talking because I already sold my Pro and will be playing all those games on the Ps5.

All the 'relevant' games I listed will most likely top the ones you have listed since we know how good they are.

We can only assume how good the games youve listed will be.

I dont see those games topping GTA V, TLOU, Tomb Raider, Bioshock Infinite, Ni No Kuni, GT6. And if we include from holiday 2012 like you are doing with this holiday then you can add Far Cry 3 there.

It seems you are confusing me with OP as I haven't done any list.

But TR Reboot is acceptable, Ascension somewhat was poorly received but AC4, Rayman Legends, DMC, Splinter Cell, Dragons Crow, Rising, SR4, into the nexus, tales of, disgaea is hardly material to tell back home.

So if we were to be fair on listing, instead of just bloating it, GTA5, TLOU, Bioshock (even if many didn't like it compared to the previous one), Ni no kuni and GT6 would the only really great games that should be accounted for.
