I think this is financially conservative port. Saber really did a great job, but without custom art or reworked just for this version it's inevitable that it looks so muddy and blurry.

Honestly, shame, CDPR could've gone an extra mile and really show other publishers how it's supposed to be done (actually, the way it was done not a generation or two ago).

With a game as massive as this, I don't know if remaking every asset from scratch would be financially viable.

Yeah, true. Still, the reduced texture quality is the thing that stands out on the first glance. Things like lighting, effects, antialising are way more subtle and therefore most people won't notice that the compromises on Switch aren't that bad, as they all first notice the textures.

Well, hopefully, we'll get to see sales numbers some time in the future and make some guesstimates based on that. Personally, I believe if they outsourced art customization to some place where it can be done relatively cheap, yet with quality (and there are actually a lot of options for that in this day and age), yes, they would spend more money, but still be quite profitable in the end and with much better port - this is why I think that, the way it was done, it's financially conervative port.

Another factor is they may not have wanted it to be seen as a kind of "Chibi" version like FF15 Pocket Edition. Maybe they just wanted to bring the game over as intact as technically possible instead of making major changes to its design.

Personally, I like it how it is, I wouldn't have wanted, say, a cel-shaded version or anything like that.

Had this game for days now but my work schedule has prevented me from even seeing the title screen. I'm gonna start it later on today, though.

I do have the version with all of the DLC for Xbox One X but I just don't have time when I'm home to dedicate to games like this (I bought RDR2 a month before it came out and I've probably logged in one hour!). The Switch version should be a godsend. I WISH it had cross saves with the Xbox One version. If I get hooked like I think I will, there's a good chance I'll try to sneak a few sessions in when I'm home.

My god! Why this is such a big deal that you have to a make thread about this? You could very well post your impressions (like everybody else) on the thread of the DF video comparison with PS4.

If is so important for you that game look like the PS4 version and you don't care about portability then do yourself a favor and buy the PS4 (or a PC bc it can runs way better than PS4).

My friend has this game on the laptop and runs worse than the switch version yet he still likes bc this is type of game that he likes and the game is fucking still The Witcher 3 despite running at low settings. Moral of the story folks: enjoy the game for what it is and not for the graphics it can achieve.

I know that the announcement of the switch version made so many eat Crow, but trying anything to trash on this version won't simple erase the inability of many of you to determine the switch graphics potential. Peace out.

Doom probably depends on a bunch of Radeon GCN graphic tools to run properly, while The Witcher III always favoured Nvidia hardware. So that might justify why one port turned relatively better than the other.

It's a shame practically the entire conversation around Switcher 3 here on VGC has been monopolized by talk about how "downgraded" it is from folks who never had any interest in buying it in the first place.

I intended to make a general discussion thread just to talk about the game with other Switch players, but now we have not one but two threads just about its technical performance it feels a bit like spam to start another thread about the game.

I mean, I love to talk tech/graphics as much as the next guy but it'd also be nice just to talk about the game in general instead of everything just being "but it looks crap compared to PS4".

The game can run in 60 fps on the switch. Interesting

This is exactly why users of consoles should have unlocked options of fiddling with the graphics settings. Heck I'd like to be able to have the options of over/underclock but obviously this ain't happening on unhacked units.

Allowing overclocking wouldn't be a good idea.  The Switch's heatsink and fan are sized according to the power draws Nintendo has restricted it to.  Pushing the system this far beyond that setting could be potentially dangerous for the system and also cause long term damage as the fan is forced to run at full speed while contending with temperatures beyond what it was designed for.  There's a reason multiple people have stated that this mod is a "use at your own risk" situation.
