Mark Cerny is designing what sounds like a very boring upgrade. No unique features as of now; just tech.

Light bar is one of my least favorite features, but oh well

Option to turn off light bar and removablr batteries is all that needs to change. I know they aren't gonna go to removal batteries though, so I hope they at least let us turn off the light when it's not needed. The touchpad has no negative impact on anything that I can think of, though I suppose it adds a little bit to the cost of manufacturing the controller.

*poof* And the little hype I had for the PS5 is gone.

What were you hoping for?

I was hoping that they continue their efforts to shit on backwards compatibility and remove the two worst things they ever put into their hardware for the betterment of humanity.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

I love the touchpad. As for the light bar, i wish they'd give us the option to turn the damn thing off completely.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. WiiU and some other friends just called and said that trying to be gimmicky rarely pays off.

Sony has found a a working formula and there's no reason to deviate from it. It's about the games themselves, not the gadgetry. Besides, they seem to be committed to their VR project on the side, which is no small thing for those who look for something new.

Personally I haven't found much use for either feature and developers haven't really either, so the controller could be more streamlined and go without these things adding to the cost and taking up battery power. But I guess the light is required for VR, so...

Useful.

Slow learner, eh?

But yes, it is useful.

Heh. I have to admit that secretly I already knew what it is for, and the initial post was mildly troll-ey.

The thing is though, the lightbar just seems like a totally unnecessary thing; apparently tracking movement wasn’t possible in any other way than an intrusive light emitter that drains my battery and reflects on my tv. Plus, if you never use PSVR, like me, it becomes even more puzzling and counter-intuitive; sometimes it’s blue, sometimes it’s yellow and sometimes it’s red. “Does red mean my battery is low? Or does it mirror a theme in a game or my UI? No surely it has to do with which player I am.” Anyway the touchpad is similar. At least it’s not in the way like the Vita’s, but I’d rather just have a start and select button. It all just feels like it’s “innovating to be innovating”. And that’s gimmicky.

Not that Sony is the only offender, I don’t see the point of the Switch’s ‘HD rumble’ either. But I digress, I’ve said enough times what I think about the Dual Shock controller as a whole, you guys don’t need to be annoyed with that here. Some days, I’m just, ‘in a mood’.

Why wouldn't it have that? It only adds to the functionality.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Well that sucks.

I can't imagine battery life being much better. Maybe slightly better than the DS4, but way under what the competition has most likely.
