PS4 also had this type of option, some games in the start of the gen you selected where did you want to start installing and also to start playing while installing.

You choose which part of the game you want to install first (Singleplayer/Multiplayer) but you don't have the option to ONLY install one afaik. You can't have multiplayer installed without having singleplayer installed.

Some games allowed you to start MP playing even before SP start installing. From that to allow you to partially install doesn't take much.

Here is a very high quality Nvme drive for $100:

This one $104:

They both 1TB nvme drives, RETAIL PRICE and TLC not even cheap QLC drives, your suggested 2TB mechanical laptop drive cost $85:

I wouldn't go and say ADATA is "High Quality". But I digress.

Sony has been flaunting the fact it has the "Fastest SSD ever". - That likely means it's not going to be a cheap bargain basement drive.
And next gen will possibly be more expensive on the hardware front.

You making 0 sense and this is the feature Mark Cerny was talking about which xbox already has.

Only a couple of games support the feature on Xbox, it's far from the norm.

Wired is talking shit because it sounds better. I have yet to see an official statement. A 500GB SSD is completely unrealistic even for a $500 console.

What I can see them doing is release a console with a 120GB SSD and either release another version with a 2TB HDD or try to load of the responsibility for more storage to the consumer.

They are already advertising the ability of only partially installing games. If that doesn't scream tiny storage I don't know what does.

Don't worry, I don't expect you to actually know what "high quality" is. The word was that the PS4 will use something that's faster than a regular consumer SSD. You will only get that with a small cache or something that's actually high quality.

So we'll end up at the 3rd option I haven't considered yet. A dirt cheap SSD that only looks good in comparison to an old console with an HDD. I mean they are already advertising it as if it's a brand new revolution. Because for their audience even the cheapest and slowest SSD will be.

That would be called a lie since Cerny was very direct on the SSD they are using on PS5 being faster than "anything on the market", not HDD.

Cerny was definitely pushing the "advertisement" claim with that statement though. The PC has SSD implementations which will obliterate the Playstation 5... Today.

Every generation consoles push claims of something "revolutionary" in their hardware... And really, it doesn't amount to much.

Besides im quite sure it entails consolemarket

At the moment, Sony won’t cop to exact details about the SSD—who makes it, whether it utilizes the new PCIe 4.0 standard—but Cerny claims that it has a raw bandwidth higher than any SSD available for PCs. That’s not all. “The raw read speed is important,“ Cerny says, “but so are the details of the I/O [input-output] mechanisms and the software stack that we put on top of them. I got a PlayStation 4 Pro and then I put in a SSD that cost as much as the PlayStation 4 Pro—it might be one-third faster." As opposed to 19 times faster for the next-gen console, judging from the fast-travel demo.

Then that would be the lie he would be telling.

I'm pretty sure the talk is mostly aimed at the console market.

Just look above. He was very specific on the SSD on PS5 comparing to PC not to console, also since no console had SDD standard the comparison and phrasing used on the entire interview would be pretty wrong.

looking forward to more ram and cpu, for larger, richer worlds. Don;t feel like they did enough this gen with new experiences, mainly graphical enhancements.

Yep. That is the claim he made.
The Raw bandwidth of a PC SSD setup can absolutely dominate the Playstation 5, even if the PC was theoretically using PCI-E 2.0 and the Playstation 5 was using PCI-E 6.0.

I get it, the console manufacturers need to promote their hardware as much as possible to attract consumers, but every generation we get inaccurate "power" claims like this.

Sony is babbling about the fastest SSD ever. I don't know if it can be true.
