Sony Interactive has no personality anymore

Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony Interactive has no personality anymore

Well they still Got Mark Cerny and Shuhei Yoshida , that's the most important thing. Mark Cerny already outdid Ken Kutaragi on designing Playstation system and Shuhei Yoshida is the Shigeru Miyamoto of Sony.

What are you even talking about? They still have Shuhei Yoshida and Mark Cerny there. If conferences are your concern, they could always just hire a host. Of course, they may just stick to States of Play. Not sure if I have seen Jim Ryan speak, but it doesn't really matter if he continues doing a good job at making PS a great platform to game on.

I'm sure they're not oblivious to the benefits of having a likable frontman. With the recent departures, they're probably just figuring out who they will be sending on stage in future outings.

Personalities in companies are dangerous. They're mostly there to distract people from the not so cool stuff. A faceless corporation is better for the greater good.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

I didn't know who Shawn Layden was until he started doing presentations when someone left (Jack Tretton?)

So whoever takes over from Shawn Layden as the frontman may be as good as he was.

Predictions (Made July 2019)

LTD: PS4 - 130m, Switch - 110m, XBO - 52m       2019 : PS4 - 15m, Switch - 18.8m, XBO - 4.8m        2020: Switch - 22m (Peak Year)

I like Shuhei Yoshida and Mark Cerny but I agree that Jim Ryan seems like a suit seeing users as nothing other than dollar bills. He really could be the downfall of PlayStation.

With that said, they just need someone like Jack Tretton again. A calm and down to earth exec who doesn't seem as full of himself as Shawn Layden and Phill Spencer seem to be imo.

I looked back and discovered that the quote about wanting to implement more microtransactions in 1st party games was in fact John Kodera and not Jim Ryan, as I wrongfully remembered (link). Sorry to Jim. Maybe he's ok then.

Edited: Nah, Jim Ryan has his share of tone deaf quotes as well (link).

Bottom line: I'm not the biggest fan of John Kodera and Jim Ryan.

The big facless corporation has lost it's party mask, oh the humanity!

Seriously though, stop with this nonsense people, Nintendo, Sony, MS and the like only care about money, if you want to fan boy out, do it for their first party studios as that is where all the talented people who actually care are located.

Oh and Shuhei Yoshida and Philly Spencer of course, there are a few straglers in the cotporate chain but respect the chain links and fuck the chain itself, it's only trying to squeeze you for all your money.

Everything in the above reply is my opinion, from my own perspective and not representative of reality outside of my own head!

Bold: Of course they do. No one's saying otherwise. Still, you can easily find better leaders than those tone deaf execs that praise microtransactions (Kodera) and censoring (Kodera + Ryan) as well as downplay the importance of indies (Ryan) and backwards compatibility (Ryan).

Building trust among your customers is also a way of running a business. Jack Tretton and Andrew House have had great success implementing a consumer friendly strategy.

Just look at Sony's contemporaries. Xbox has Phill Spencer, Nintendo has Shinya Takahashi and Yoshiaki Koizumi.

Ok and?

Neither of these ppl make me any more interested or invested in the xbox and Nintend brands.

Hideo koijma? Mister miyamoto?

Rockstar never had a stage presence nor they did they have any personality describing their games. Yet their games sell gangbusters and are critically successful too.
They are regarded as greatest developers and are hugely respected by the gaming community.

At the end of the day, Its the product that matters.
You can have phil Spencer on stage every year promising shit and not delivering on them.

On the other hand you have SONY that actually delivers on the promise of Greatness.
As long as they continue to be consumer friendly and deliver great games, nothing else matters.
