Forums - Sony Discussion - PS5 will be a "greener" console than PS4

Like other has mentioned it's just an improvement of standby mode like on PS4 . The console itself when it's running will be the same as powerful or more compare to PS4

They might be ditching the separate ARM CPU cores and DRAM and relying on the beefier Ryzen cores alone to help achieve it.
Or they might do the opposite and beef up some ARM cores.

Both are possible, and correct .

Being green is far from being political. It only becomes political when people make it political.

Everyone should strive to be greener.

Sony has gotten political!

I liked it better when politics didn't interfere with their business like it does now and to say otherwise would be blind to the reality since they are following just about every progressive political trends there is out there ...

Sometimes it is pragmatic to be 'green' but that doesn't mean you shouldn't pretend that there is no political movement behind it because not everything that it promotes is always in the name of pragmatism ...

I don't really play JRPGs.  So, no.

How is that relevant?

Final Fantasy VII has a very pro-environmentalist/anti-military/anti-corporate story and is one of the most beloved Sony titles (Squaresoft, but definitely a Sony game) in the history of the system.  Developers and writers caring about the environment is nothing new.  Sadly, much of their words have gone on deaf ears, or deaf wallets to be more precise.

Except that it didn't exactly absolve Avalanche of guilt, either.  Just completely raping the land isn't good, but neither is hurting/killing people to "save" it.  As Barret says after defeating Dyne, his hands aren't any cleaner than Dyne's and neither should have the right to hold Marlene, again.  Of course, those messages kinda get put on the backburner when Cloud and company have to save the world from Weapon, Meteor, and Sephiroth.  Including Midgar and the people in Shinra.

If that's in idle, then ok, that's reasonable, though given how miniscule that is compared to full load, honestly WGAF.

What I'd like from Sony and MS is they go back to at least 7th gen power consupmtion, 170-200W at full load and focus on performance.

If they want to be eco friendly, they should make their stuff from something other than plastics.

Power consumption of a console is a drop in the pond, that will make no difference whatsoever.

Being green is neither political, nor progressive... And even if it was, who gives a fuck? Go with the science not the political bullshit.
Being green is a responsibility that everyone should burden, we all live on this planet.

Is there a political force that drives it? Maybe. But Science supports it empirically, so lets stop with the bullshit and stop with the political games and get behind it.

It's only political because people make it political, doesn't change the fact that climate change is happening whether we like it or not, whether you are right wing, centrist or left wing is thus ultimately irrelevant, many nations recognize the science and have bi-partisan support from both the left and the right.

They might have an even lower TDP cap. It will be interesting to see at either rate.

Plastics or Polymers can be made bio-degradable and can be made from renewable sources, plastic itself isn't the issue, it's where the plastic is sourced from and how long it lasts in the general environment that gets contentious... Plus Plastic can be made with relatively low amounts of energy verses say... Aluminum, so can theoretically be less carbon intensive.

The problem usually doesn't come from "let's protect the environment" but what they propose to achieve it and the lack of view on how that can also harm others.

Just like Greta on a very tall horse talking about her dreams being lost, while being child of very rich people, and being able to see CO2 molecules seem very ridiculous when put in context of child that live in famine, war torn areas, etc those child are the ones that really have their dreams stolen.

So yes I'm all in on reduce/reuse/recycle and the company I work for is always looking to improve on it. I approve Sony trying to use less resources to make the console and that it consume less energy (both can even benefit performance and price). But on putting the message on their games, it will always be a case of it fits, looks preachy or shoehorned. Like said Captain Planet was a great show single minded on the subject but other show that have nothing to do with environment protection putting lecture about it would just get in the way of the entertainment.

I am not denying the science behind it ...

Just because the science behind it is good doesn't mean that the political ideology is noble in it's endeavor. Nazi's were almost on to something with eugenics but that didn't make any of their actions 'right' in a humanitarian sense ...

It's political because people want to make non-political subjects such as science become political as well ...

That is why solely being right in the technical sense isn't good enough to subscribe to a political ideology since we can't guarantee that the people behind them won't twist that into their own perverted benefit ...

Brainwashing people with facts is still brainwashing people regardless at the end of the day ...

You use a lot of words, but what is ultimately your point? That sustainability isn't right or wrong, but it depends on the politics behind it? Ergo, doing good things for the environment is bad when bad people benefit from it? Honest question because I'm curious to your line of thinking.

Just ban physical games already.
