Yeah they do like majority of games in the modern era, whats your point?

Most games don't have them. I could go down the list of all the games released on Opencritic in the last 90 days. Only a handful have them. As far as I'm concerned once a game gets MTX the series is dead to me. Games that are designed to play on your psychological weaknesses to get more money out of you aren't good games. Games like that are no longer designed to be fun, but rather they are designed to be compelling, and have unbearable levels of grind.

I don't really play MP so I might be wrong but the microtransactions for Gears is just stuff like fancy colored guns and emblems, right? I mean it might matter to some more than others but I don't feel compelled to spend anything extra.

As far as large AAA games go, most have MTX in some form. It all comes down to how they implement them. Every MTX in Gears 5 is cosmetic and has zero effect on gameplay. Nothing in the store can be grinded for because it's only offered through the store. All post launch content like, new maps and map editor pieces, won't cost anything.

I said "I don't feel compelled to spend anything extra" but, come to think about it, I didn't spend anything on it in the first place! 😂

Except you can buy in-game currency to cycle daily challenges to make this Tour of Duty grind much faster and easier. And it is indeed a grind that forces you to play modes you don't want (or use money to cycle challenges) to eventually unlock something.

Not to mention how laughable their "content" of emblems & bloodsprays are. "Most content any Gears game ever had" they said..while technically true, it's mostly those bloodsprays 'n stuff. Geez..

I don't think all mtx is bad. I recently spend 20€ on Sea of Thieves because they added tons of free content for a year and a half before even offering mtx.

But TC delivered a broken game and have the nerve to offer these predatory microtransactions. 10€ for a character? What, 30€ for a full weapon skin se? gtfo..

I'm already about halfway complete with the Tour of Duty. If someone wants to rush through it, they can spend iron, but 3 months is more than enough time to complete it. Some of the challenges need tweaking, but it's not like every single challenge needs to be completed. The prices for some of the items in the store are too much. There is no reason for a character skin to cost $10. Hopefully they fix it soon. All the issues in the game currently are things that can easily fix. It's not even been out for a month yet.

So is the 1st TLOU game dead to you because that offered Pay to Win MTs which is the worst kind of MTs?

I did not know about that. This P2W nonsense was added in a year and a half after the game first launched on PS3, so it flew under the radar for me. But yeah, that is BS. Until I get absolute confirmation that TLoU2 doesn't have any MTX, or plans for MTX in it the series is dead to me. Screw that!

In saying that, are you now going to hate on TLOU series like you do with Gears 5 because of this practice? Because you said the series is dead to you if they offer MTs..

I honestly dont get the problem. A good game is a good game to me regardless if it has shop options. Heck its not like they offer amazing campaigns or anything else.

Understandable if its gambling mechanics and loot boxes, but are we really judging games based on if you can spend real money in a shop to change a weapon colour? Sounds abit petty to me.

Damn you are really over-exaggerating here.

Laughable content? Sure, than don't buy them. Its a choice not a forced action.

You spend money on SoTs because they add free content? Sure it does, and what's to say Gears 5 isn't offering free content? The game has only been out for a month plus the entire game is free on GamePass, isn't that a good incentive?

TC released a broken game? How so? Also do you know what predatory MTs are? Lets not compare Gear's MTs to actual predatory strategies. Gears 5 is a MA15+ game not a G for everyone type of game to begin with. Also there are no gambling mechanics like slot machines or casino games being rubbed into kids faces here. That's predatory.

Offering a store with MTs is normal today especially for free games so sure Gears 5 would be better without them however the store does not affect you in anyway aside from the fact some rich kid can invest into it.

Honestly the complaints about games having MTs is petty especially with these cases where the games are aimed for older gamers. Pay-to-Win, Lootboxes and Casino games aimed towards younger gamers is wrong and I heavily agree with that. Store fronts to me don't bother me one bit. I just simply ignore it or check it out once in awhile because sometimes they do offer cool things.

While 2 & 3 were more polished experiences...#1 takes the Cake. Let me explain: a lot of you guys might not remember but during the 360's launch there was much talk about the system not being much of a leap over the OG Xbox because most games didn't look that much better.

As a 360 owner back in 2005-6 I was scared to death of the PS3'S vaunted Cell chip, yada yada. Then came the trailers for the OG Gears and I was blown away. For the first time I actually saw a game that graphically represented a gorgeous true leap over anything else ever seen.

The game released to compete with Resistance ( a launch title on the PS3) Gears looked worlds better. Gears immediately submerged me into its world with the greatest looking visuals I had ever witnessed. The shooting was tight and the game excellently paced. The first encounter with the Kryll was terrifying, in my opinion the cover and shoot mechanics were already polished to perfection.

It was a cinematic game, with great likeable characters. The coop was just as fun if not more so than the main campaign and at the time I don't remember any coop experience being as rewarding.

Gears was the reason to own a 360 before Halo 3. It was the reason I bought another 360 after my OG one died of the RRoD. I love Gears.

Agreed with all of this. Gears was one of my first 360 titles and it blew everything else away. For me it was the Titanfall of last gen. The launch games were ok, but Gears was when it became really apparent that we were in a new generation. Such smooth mechanics, great sound, and incredible MP. Visually it was stunning, especially how chaotic everything was and the intense gore. It never got old rolling up on someone and shotgunning them and they just explode into giblets.

I fell off with the sequels though. You’re right that GoW was a cinematic game, I guess it was the first of these cinematic third person corridor games that exploded last gen, but that’s kind of why I lost interest. Between that and Naughty Dog games and various third party titles, I just lost interest in the style. I didn’t finish Gears 2, I literally made it one level into Gears 3 before the cliche structure of enemy fight, cinematic, enemy fight, huge boss fight bored me to death and I stopped. Judgement changed things up but I couldn’t finish that. My backlog has 4 and 5 so idk about those but what I’ve played of 4 seems more open ended and I’ve only played MP in Gears 5 but I’ve heard about open levels.

So my answer is Gears 1.
