Very rarely will a game get me right in the feels like Gears 2 did... Dom's wife man.... every single time just how much of a record scratch halt it is when you see that she doesn't look like the wife he was out searching for ... but just an empty husk, defiled to the point of losing her humanity. It's just heartbreaking to see.

Why not check me out on youtube and help me on the way to 2k subs over at www.youtube.com/stormcloudlive

Gears 5. And you play as Kait, my favorite character of the saga.

Didn't the last two Gears games have Microtransactions in them?

Damn straight. In a series that mostly thrives on brash machismo, raw and poignant moments like this hit like a lighting bolt from a calm sky.

For me that's always been a strength of the series, that while its easy to write it off as the ultimate dudebro game on the surface, there's genuine heart beneath that crass exterior. (At least in the 360 games, can't speak for the more recent ones)

Gears 4 was a misstep. It had the mechanics but not the motivation, character development, or pacing. Gears 5 feels like Gears 1-3. They got it right. Even the shallow characters from Gears 4 have depth now. I might even replay Gears 4 the way I went back and watched older Marvel films after Endgame. Hopefully Gears 5 will make GeoW4 more enjoyable.

Gears 2 would be my favorite overall. It's the first Gears game I really got into. Gears 3 and 5 are tied for second.

Campaign I would rate Gears 2 -> Gears 1 -> Gears 4 -> Gears 3 -> Gears 5 -> Judgment

Multiplayer and other stuff Gears UE -> Gears 3 -> Gears 4 -> Gears 2 -> Judgment -> Gears 5.

Gears 3 and Judgment also sold cosmetic stuff. But it wasn't nearly as bad as scummy as Gears 4 and 5 mtx practices.

Yeah they do like majority of games in the modern era, whats your point?

It really depends on what you're looking for. Gears 2 and 5 have the best campaigns in the series hands down. PvP isn't so much my scene in Gears, but I felt like it had really hit a sweet spot in 3. If Horde is your thing, they all have a bit of a different flavor to them, and to be completely honest, I'm not even sure which one is actually my favorite, though I can say that 4's Horde is the one I like the least. Then there's Judgement, which isn't all that great as an overall package, but it's got Overrun, which is imo the best MP mode of the entire franchise.

Most games don't have them. I could go down the list of all the games released on Opencritic in the last 90 days. Only a handful have them. As far as I'm concerned once a game gets MTX the series is dead to me. Games that are designed to play on your psychological weaknesses to get more money out of you aren't good games. Games like that are no longer designed to be fun, but rather they are designed to be compelling, and have unbearable levels of grind.
