According to VGC, it sold 0.29 mil in NA and 0.22 mil in EU on PS4.  No revision needed, those sales are lack luster no matter how you want to look at it.  And TBH, if their expectations were any lower than what it sold, that just further proves my point of how little SE sees the sales potential outside of Japan currently.

SE fault for not advertising it hard outside Japan, the game is miles better than anything FF, yet consumers love buying the garbage latter.

Which is exactly why true Dragon Quest fans should be hoping for success in the West for the Switch version regardless of platform, so that stigma will go away and newer entries continue to come over.  Downplay serves nothing, and truly highlights just how clueless platform haters can be.

DQ11 PS4 sold way above expectations (in the West and in Japan). It was the best first month sales for any Dragon Quest ever in the West and is the best selling entry in the West. The Switch version could very well outsell the PS4 version, but let's not revise history to imply that the game has somehow underperformed.

It's not the best selling entry in the west as both VIII and IX have sold over double what it did in the west.

Does anybody have both the PS4 version and the Switch version? What's the comparison of loading times on Switch and PS4 Pro?

I already own this game on PS4, but am heavily considering getting it for Switch. I just don't want to run into insanely long loading times. Like Witcher 3 on a base level PS4 loading times.

Haven't played the PS4 version, but the loading times on Switch are mostly in the range of 5-8 seconds when transitioning between areas or fast traveling. It's more common that a loading time is below the aforementioned range than above it, but both instances are rare. In general, you have just enough time to read the three to five lines of loading screen tips and info before the game continues.

In any case, the Switch version doesn't have long loading times. The loading times don't sit in the short 2-4 seconds range or are non-existent, but 5-8 seconds is still bearable, especially because you commonly spend quite some time in any given area. A bigger issue is that the ultra-speed battle option still only nets a speed that I would call medium-fast at best, because there's a lot more battling to be done than loading new areas. Although the game says that hitting the A or B button can be used to further speed up battles, but having to press a button all the time is tedious and I am still conflicted if the effort is worth the extra time that can be saved.

Thanks for the info. Witcher 3 had one minute long loading times. I'll be trading in my PS4 copy and picking up the Switch version. (It's okay, I only paid $24 for my PS4 version, and I get $15 off the Switch version!)

Citation needed. Shipment data refutes your over double statement.

DQ9 did sell 132k in its first month. So you can calculate revenue ($40 vs $60) to get an idea of the difference.

Well, we know that the game shipped nearly 800k (number varies based on different trackers/digital estimations) in the West by November 2018 (Source), so that's obviously not correct. I was not using VGC as a source of my information.

Maybe you aren't reading what you replied to you're saying it's the best selling in the west which according to this sites numbers isn't true launch month doesn't change the reality that both IX and VIII have sold more in total than XI, you're also talking about the PS4 version yet you're lumping in Steam's sales as well because that's what the 800k shipment figure includes even the tweet includes the PC version. IX and VIII have sold 1.4m and 1.5m compared to the PS4 version which would be around 600-700k.

I only have the Switch version, but a Youtube comparison said loading times were similar on PS4 and Switch. PC has shorter loading times.

I've been playing the 16bit mode only, and so far, I think it's a fantastic game.  Expecting to give it a 2nd play through eventually in 3dmode and it'll be like playing a totally different game.

Everything I could find placed IX's LT sales just over 1m, and the assumption I was making is that it has done another 200k in the past 10 months (which I feel is reasonable, but not guaranteed). Where do you see the lifetime numbers for IX and VIII? I promise I googled around for them.

I was comparing DQ11 to DQ11S, which was the same comparison being made in the post that Shiken was responding to. Shiken made the statement that the sales in the West were bad, so I assumed that it was a broadbrush for both versions (with the mentions of PS4 due to it not releasing on PC in Japan and the PC sales being a minority).

While I understand that the majority of the people responding are PS fans, I thought the point being argued was that it's higher scores was attributed to its platform rather than a PS4 vs Switch reviewers comment.

Again read what you're replying to I told you going by VGC's numbers and even with your assumption XI is still not the best selling in the west. Shiken mentioned the PS4 and PS4 version when making his point so it was clear what he meant as for the last part that's irrelevant to me because I'm pointing out that what you claimed was incorrect.

The first several mentions are just DQXI's performance in general, not some PS4 vs Switch slapfight.

If you're deadset on only using VGC numbers (that are already proven to be incorrect in this case), then there's really no room for discussion. I asked about where you saw the lifetime sales for DQ8 and 9, and you don't bother. Even VGC's number doesn't show 1.4 and 1.5m.
