They've deliberately locked features behind a subscription service, in a free to start mobile game.

This is why I didn't want Nintendo to make mobile games in the first place. -_-

Some days I just blow up.

As long as they keep it on mobile, I don't care. Get that money and make real games for the Switch.

Does not surprise me.

This game is disgusting.By anyone standards.

The developer being Nintendo just makes it worse.I expected more from them.

Hopefully this is not a bad sign of things to come...

Smartphone users want such payment models. There have been plenty of companies, including Nintendo, who offered a single one-time purchase option to get everything a game has to offer, but that approach has fallen flat for everyone. It's why console gaming and smartphone gaming are entirely different beasts and the idea that smartphone gaming could be a threat for portable console gaming is completely ridiculous.

If anyone believes that Nintendo's payment models for their smartphone games provide any indication for payment models on Switch, they need a reality check.

Legend11 correctly predicted that GTA IV (360+PS3) would outsell SSBB. I was wrong.

Who cares? Mobile gamers have shown that they'd rather be nickel-and-dimed then actually get quality products.

This is the model that works for mobile and Nintendo got a big dose of that reality with Super Mario Run and Fire Emblem Heroes.

As long as you can get Rosalina for in-game currency, I'm fine with it.

I don't think it will be. I don't think Nintendo wanted to make ANY mobile games, but they are tired of stockholders harassing upper management about it, so they finally decided to cave a little. Don't they usually have other companies handle these games? If so, I don't think the development of these "games" is going to slow down any AA or AAA games coming out. Plus it will get those trolling shareholders off their backs.

Well, first of all DeNa is the compagny who does mobile games for Nintendo if I remember right (except Dragalia Lost). This does not hinder anything about their buisness in the console space nor the devloppement of their games on the Switch.

Now, remember when people weren't willing to pay 5 measly bucks on mobile for a game like Super Mario Run just because they prefer other monetization systems ? Nintendo was willing to play a fair game by their own rules but it didn't work, then they found success in gatcha economy with Dragalis Lost and Fire Emblem Heroes which received mixed and positive results but they also saw people that were willing to completly dumb plenty amount of cash in. I guess now there just trying to see how far they can go with various monetization until they set themselves for good.

The mobile market weirdly answer positively in the context of more exploitative monetization methods in their games and that's why I always saw it as a plague most of the time.
