At some point, I was pushing to define exactly what the Switch was years ago... For this exact reason.

Ok the Switch "is" a hybrid. Conned so because it could be used as a handheld and a Home console. So what does that make the switch lite? A hybrid too? Obviously not... its strictly a handheld. But I am guessing that if we end up having a version of the switch that can only be used as a home console then well....

Anyways, props to Nintendo for blurring the lines. This is built-in post moving right here lol.

The real head-scratcher though is, doesn't this mean that every windows PC that can play xbox games is basically an xbox?

You are both trying to make it more complicated than it really is. When Vita TV was counted towards Vita sales, there's no question about it that Switch Lite sales will be counted towards the Switch total.

They're biased so they don't want to think logically. Oh, and the Vita TV was a miserable failure so they probably forgot it existed.

Switch Lite won't have this issue.

- Comes into the thread and contributes nothing to the topic at hand.

- States that 3 posters who have a differing opinion, are bias, and that said bias is so strong, it is an impairment to their logic. Offers notthing to support this while ironically posting the most blatantly bias comment in the thread.

- Flames on THE VITA TV?....Not at all germane to the subject matter, or toneally appropriate to the preceding comments.

You're a towel.

I'll get back to the earlier comments and quotes asap. Because I really want to!

Wait people are trying to separate Switch and Lite sales... Come one man lite is a Switch SKU so counts to its sales.

Hook, line and sinker.

Go watch hentai on your PS4 I'm sure that'll calm you down.

Just read this from a review from Wired

"" Technically, the name "Switch" no longer fits, as the Lite cannot connect to a television, thereby not being able to 'switch' between docked and portable forms. It also means only games with a handheld mode are compatible with the new console – try to buy anything on Nintendo eShop that requires TV output (Labo, Just Dance, 1-2-Switch, Super Mario Party) and you'll be warned it's incompatible. This is the biggest change, but not the only one. ""

But they also refer to it being a new console

If it can’t play all the Switch games then it can’t be the Switch?

Let's get dirty. I'm gonna put my arm shoulder-deep into the toilet to get this tampon that's clogging it.....The Switch was already not a home console. It was a hybrid. Launched 3 years and 4 months after the PS4 and XBO. For $100 less. So the direct comparisons are already in territory that might cause people to tilt their heads and furrow their brows. Now that the Switch Lite is a thing? Yeesh. I mean, I know what I see, but I expect the discourse over the next few years to be a somewhat annoying affair.

At some point, I was pushing to define exactly what the Switch was years ago... For this exact reason.

I remembered the question about Switch Lite being asked quite a while back, but was there a topic for it? Figured since it was being mentioned here about adding it to Switch sales that I'd say something.

It seemed the hypothetical scenario's weren't really leading to anyone budging going forward, but the Switch Home is the perfect example if it comes to pass. While unlikely like the rest of the possibilities I put forward, if a purely dedicated Switch Home came to market, then by the Switch is a Switch standard, it will be combined with Switch sales as well.

Meaning all hardware will simply fall into one category as long as some/enough games work across them. Now if that remains the standard going forward, it's almost going to make the console hardware wars obsolete because you won't be able to make a strong point because if one company only has home consoles but another company has everything under the sun, then you're not even close to comparing apples to apples.

Not to mention comparing to past platforms. You won't be able to say wow, I can't believe Switch sold 100M+ units while consoles like Wii U, GCN, N64, etc, sold so much less than that. Maybe that's seen as a good thing? Then there's services that seem to be growing and spreading and slowly merging with other non console platforms, so how does that come into play with sales numbers down the road?

Maybe there's way more work to it than I could imagine when it comes to having Switch sales separated, but the Switch game sales should be able to stay combined shouldn't they, so why not just separate the hardware? Just drop Vita off the chart since it's dead, move everything over to the right, and add Switch Lite on the left beside Switch. Make the Switch Lite logo yellow, light blue, or grey (or a unique color regardless but not red), yet make it's bar the same red as Switch, so it's clear they have a connection. Then change the 3DS bar to a unique color and not Switch red (a brighter or darker red might work to keep the Nin connection), that way it's not confused with being part of the Switch platform.

The site can do whatever it wants, and if it's decided platform hardware is all the same going forward then that's their decision, but I can't help but see that leading to issue's down the road. More issue's that would arise in comparison to keeping form factor sales separate anyway.

I can't help but feel that this topic is weighing very heavily upon you and that there is a great anxiety building up at the thought of the consequences of a combined sales reporting of Switch and Switch Lite as they relate to your console allegiance of choice.  Might I advise the creation of a new thread such that we may continue to debate the illogical need to separate console model sales?

Im guessing it should be over 500k next week.

So she lost a little weight and is moving on up? Glad she made the switch...

Above, plus the fact I've made it clear that I think it should be made visibly obvious that there is still a connection between Switch and Switch Lite, somehow means that I'm freaking out, and that by combining them it will make platforms like XB1 look bad? Really? Have you not seen my avatar?

If there was an easy way and the will to separate the mid gen upgrades I'd have no problem with that. It's not up to me though, just like this isn't, so if it doesn't change then it's just going to be what it's going to be. I would get laugh out of the, I told ya so's later on though. lol.

C'monnnn. Most of the comments that are....philosophizing?....about the Switch Lite and it's status as a home console in the numbers, have been fairly measured and tactful. Some of the responses to these fairly innocuous posts, that are trying to get into someone's head, and pretending to know what other people are thinking and attributing fake motivations to them without being able to support your assertions, indicates to me, who is feeling the weight of this topic. The most measured response thus far has been from Rolstoppable.

I want to discuss this more before it dies. At least as far as this thread is concerned. I have little doubt it will crop up again. But I'm beat. Want to put thought into this if I comment again.

The Switch Lite is a handheld by the way.

The team here at VGChartz will be reporting the sales of the regular Switch and Switch Lite together. Are there differences between the two? Of course. However, we never reported the different versions of the 3DS, DS, etc separately.

Excellent, good to see that common sense will prevail.

PS4 and Pro weren't separated, the OG Xbone and the Xbone S/X weren't separated, 3DS and 2DS weren't separated, Vita and Vita TV weren't separated, there's absolutely no reason for the Lite and the base Switch to be separated, it's just a revision of the same hardware.

Thank you for your efforts and those of the rest of the staff.
