Good week for Switch and PS4.

Can PS4 pass PSOne by the end of this year ? Just wondering...

Hmmm. I'm thinkin' no. But wouldn't mind being proven wrong.

PS1 sits at 102.49m units sold. Think about that again.

Whether you go buy the 102.49m figure (Which is the correct figure) or the 104.25m listed on vgchartz, it doesn't matter either way. It'll easily surpass both.

To not beat 104.25m by the end of the year would mean the PS4 would have sold less than 12.5m in 2019. It's going to drop from last year's 18.16m but there's no way it's dropping to 12.5m total sales.

PS4 will sell 14.5m-16m this year. Meaning it'll finish 2019 with between 106.3m and 107.8m sold. (It had sold 91.8m by the end of 2018)

I was going by the VGC number. Regardless, I obviously didn't put enough thought into my post.

Yeaaah....I just picked a big bouquet of oopsie daisies. Curious as to why the total given here on VCG remains incorrectly at 104.25m.

Congratulations to the PS4! The 6th video game system in history to crack 100 million units sold! The Wii and PS1 should be surpassed before the end of the year and then the Game Boy some time late next year before the PS5 launches. It'll be very interesting to see how much the PS4 has left in the tank.
The Nintendo Switch is also doing great. Now that the PS4 is officially the 6th system to reach 100 million units sold, the Switch is going to be the 7th. and now with the Switch Lite now arrived, I feel it's about to take it to another level. Next week is going to be huge!

Don't feel like there's any pressure. What you do is very much appreciated by all of us and the last thing we want is for you to burn or wear yourself out. Just do what you can and thank you!

Just thought about this, but since Switch Lite is handheld only, it's going to count towards Switch hybrid console sales? I realize this isn't cut and dry because of it's initial hybrid nature, but PS4 and XB1 are just home consoles, plus the mid gen upgrades, so adding Switch Lite to Switch sales doesn't exactly seem right to me.

I mean, while not all that likely, if a late PS4 Portable, that was digital only, came to market, would it or should it really fall under PS4 sales?

I dunno. Just an odd situation in comparison to the past.

They are the same platform.

A Switch Lite is still a Switch.  It's not doing anything a standard Switch can't do.

But Switch Lite can't do things Switch can, like how 3DS can't either, in terms of the hardware.

I realize they are the same platform in today's world, but let's say, while again unlikely, SNY slaps PS4 or PS5 on a phone and it can play some of those games in a downgraded fashion. Do those phone sales count now? I would say they shouldn't, but if it's considered part of the platform, well. You see what I am getting at correct? Like I said before, it's not all that cut an dry, but where does the line get drawn when it comes to differentiating hardware sales?

If Switch and Switch Lite had separate bars like Switch and 3DS now, it wouldn't be brain surgery to add them together if you wanted to look at the sales combined. I guess the question would be are the numbers coming in separately from the get go? If they aren't, then knowing what sales are handheld vs hybrid may not be easy if not next to impossible.

I want to take you seriously but...I just can't.  I can't tell if you're just trying to be funny or if you really see it this way.

Aside from the fact that Switch sales may not look as impressive to some if they aren't combined, I don't see why this seems so crazy.

If you wanted to say they play the same games, well some games cross platforms, so do sales of those other platforms, for those specific games, count as well?

It's not like there's a blatantly obvious and distinct cut off, but allowing a handheld and console to be considered the same, basically means all hardware sales for any platform that can play some of the same games should be combined into one.

I myself don't really agree with that, but that's just me.

You realize you're making it worse, right?

Do you even know what the difference between the Switch and Switch Lite is?

Have I ever made it better from your point of view?

And yes, the lite version is lighter. Duh.
