From gamesindustry.biz

The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening on Nintendo Switch is No.1 in the UK Boxed Charts.

Link's Awakening is the latest Zelda remake from independent developer Grezzo. The company previously created the 3D remakes of Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask for 3DS. Link's Awakening is Grezzo's biggest Zelda launch in the UK yet, surpassing the record set by Ocarina of Time 3D by 27%.

It's actually only the third time Zelda has been No.1 in the UK charts. The last time was way back in 2003 with the launch of The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker on Nintendo GameCube. Before then, Ocarina of Time was No.1 on N64 back in 1998 just before Christmas. It followed Nintendo air-lifting copies of the game to stores after it sold out in its first week.

It's the fastest-selling Switch game released this year, surpassing the record set by Super Mario Maker 2.

The biggest Zelda launch on Nintendo Switch in the UK was Breath of the Wild, which was a launch title for the system. In fact, Breath of the Wild is still in the charts today, and saw a 22% increase in sales over the last week (it's currently at No.16).

Indeed, a number of Nintendo Switch games performed well this week, coinciding with the launch of the new Nintendo Switch Lite console. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is back at No.3 after a 23% rise in sales, Super Smash Bros Ultimate is at No.18 with a 15% increase in sales, while Super Mario Odyssey is at No,.24 with an 18% sales bump.

Also new this week on Switch is Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch, which initially launched on PS3 back in 2013. The Switch version debuted at No.23.

Yes, LA beat Mario Maker 2 and FE3H. Probably sold ~30-40k first week which is fantastic for the UK.

It seems to have had great sales in the West. From what I've heard USA sales are very good also.

2D Zelda beating Mario Maker is definitely a surprise.

Very nice, great game overall so that makes me happy! It just feels great to be playing through dungeons again lol. I hope they eventually port/remaster all the Zelda games over to switch. It would be really nice to have them in one place.

I’m a little more then half way through links awakening now and it’s as charming as it was on the GB/GBC.

Good news! The original sold 6m WW spread over the GB and GBC versions, let’s see if the remake can beat that.

That would be pretty insane! Don't think it's going to sell that much personally. But 3m-4m at least!

Yeah matching the original is probably a high bar. OoT3D, the best selling remake in the series, sold around 5.5m or something lifetime. I do hope Breath of the Wild’s success can spread to other titles in the series. Happy with the good news anyway, after all this is one of my all time favorite games.

Just got my copy, the title gets cut off to: "The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awake" on the home menu. That's it's name now.

Easily GotY for me. I never played the original. Link Awakening is superb in every aspect. Great world and dungeons. Lovely exploration.

Twilight Princess didn't make it to the top spot in the UK?
