SE calls this version a remake, not a port.

Yet again proving developers have no idea what they're talking about with these terms.

Activision - "Crash Team Racing: Nitro Fueled is a remaster"

SE - "DQ XI S is a remake."

lmao.

I would be very disappointed if Switch owners did not support this game like with ROTK XIII and NA Taishi.

It is a stellar game, deserving of much praise.

I preordered it months ago.

The wii u only had xenoblade chronicles x and tokyo mirage sessions as must have Jrpg's. On switch i already have xenoblade chronicles 2, tales of vesperia, Octopath travellar, fire emblem TH, FFXII zodiac age and Ni no kuni with dragon quest XI S, Tokyo mirage sessions port, trials of mana, xenoblade chronicles remake and shin megami tensei V all on the way.

The Wii U only had Xenoblade Chronicles X as a must have JRPG.

This game looks really cool, but it's length is kind of intimidating right now. I just finished Earthbound on the SNES and even that felt long. I just don't have the free time right now for a marathon game like this.

And yet, I've been itching for a really good Final Fantasy-like game for a long time. Final Fantasy doesn't have the magic anymore and the only franchise that is of equal caliber is Dragon Quest. I might just have to get this and see if I can make my way through it a little bit at a time.

+ Tokyo Mirage Sessions.

At least, now the controversy is gone. Anime aesthetic being appreciated more often has finally caught up in the west. Game has almost no excuse to not perform better than it's intial release on WiiU.

Without the controversy we are left with a bland title in most aspects that couldn't make happy a Persona, Shin Megami or Fire Emblem fan. So without that, it has nothing going for it.

It will perform better, but I don't think by much.

Hopefully the influx of new Switch Lite owners will help DQ11 sell. I can't help but be concerned that if it performs poorly it could be disastrous for Japanese third party support beyond just the usual low budget stuff. Unless I'm mistaken it'll be the first test case of a major Triple A Japanese non-Nintendo title on Switch, late port though it is.

I don't think that would change much regardless tbh among japanese third parties for Nintendo. Just for some of the bigger ones:

Square has done Square things, which is DQ and their one off titles like Bravely or Octopath, Mana games, plus their FF spin off and ports.

Bandai Namco has been okay-ish with their licensed games and the like, plus ports and their brand of more quirky titles like Taiko.

Sega also has been doing their usual stuff, with Sonic and they even brought over Valkyria Chronicles, plus their Ages games and Puyo. Like I don't think DQ selling well will bring over Yakuza for example.

If Capcom hasn't done anything noteworthy almost 3 years into the Switch life, I don't think DQXI will really change anything for them. Same for Atlus.

Koei Tecmo started supporting the system far more than the rest since the start of the system's life, with some of their Warriors games, licensed titles and Gust co. RPGs, which are now 11 of them, 6 Atelier ports and 5 new titles. And given their reports that those have been catching up to PS4 sales in both Japan and the West from an essentially new base since Nintendo systems never got a mainline Atelier, that won't change as well.

I guess it just kinda feels like if DQ11 performs badly, we probably won't see any more Japanese companies bother bringing AAA games to Switch, as they'll see this as a sign that the audience isn't there.
