Forums - Sony Discussion - Rumor: Sony plans to launch the PS5 and PS5 Pro at the same time.

"At the Japanese developer conference CEDEC 2019, journalist Zenji Nishikawa (via YouTube ) hopes to learn that Sony is going to compete directly with two variants in the competition against Microsoft's Xbox Project Scarlett for the launch of its next game console. For an extra $ 100 to $ 150, gamers should get more power with a possible PS5 Pro, while buyers of the "normal" PlayStation 5 can relieve the wallet. I could see Sony having a base $400 model and a pro $500 or $550. This would be a solid strategy to start next gen.

Let's hope not...Things are already FUBAR right now...

I actually brought this up when the current Pro came out. I think it's a good idea because we get the choice from the get go without the burden of having to retire a perfectly fine 400+ dollar console early. Were not 2008, customer confusion due to a supposed base and Pro model is a non issue thanks to smartphone knowledge. Consumers are much wiser and informed than they were 10 years ago.

Oh and btw - AC: Odyssey baaaaaby!!

From a marketing perspective probably not the best approach. Keep it simple, launch the introduction model as a one version which will have top specs at the time and then in 2 years a revised slimmer and more powerful model being the pro. This will give fans something to look forward to and a reason to hand over even more cash to Sony.

A pro model isn't going to be much more powerful launching at the same time. It probably just comes down to different storage. Hybrid SSD in the cheap model, larger faster full SSD in the pro model.

I don't see a problem with this. I think its great to offer the customer options. There is no real negative affect here, if anything it increases sales due to having a suitable option.

I think it's a good idea, it will save me having to upgrade mid gen like i did this generation :)

They can make smaller tweaks for around 100 more, if it's just a SSD difference then I imagine people won't be very excited about it.

Would be good to have options at release but not sure if the “PRO“ model would be really what you would expect from a PRO model or more like we expect from a single PS5 launch and the cheaper model is more like a PS5 light then (which would be fine to get more people to enjoy PS5 games)
