Forums - Gaming Discussion - Should Sony release the Playstation 5 before or after Scarlett?

Sony should release the Playstation 5...

...Before Scarlett 4 11.76%

...Along with Scarlett 27 79.41%

...After the Scarlett 3 8.82%

Total:34

We already know that Project Scarlett, the next console from Microsoft, is scheduled to release Holiday 2020 (Probably around Black Friday). We also know that Sony is working on "Playstation 5", and according to some sources, we are going to see more details about it in February.

So, the question here is: Should Sony release their next-gen console before or after Microsoft? What's your opinion about it?

Do you think they could have some advantage by releasing it earlier? Or they should wait to see how people are going to react to Scarlett and improve the Playstation 5 even more?

I think it doesnt matter at all, they are both gonna have a very bad start if they dont just go ahead and announce and exlusive game available on launch day like... a God of War sequel or Fable.

Along with Scarlett.

If they release it a year later, a lot of people won't wait to jump into next gen.
If released a year earlier, some people will buy the other console during the early games drought making the other's launch line up looks decent.

Alongside, more people will tend to stick to one console. At least that's how it went with me this gen.

Doesn't matter. Price and software drives sales.

On top of this, the ball is waaay in SONY's court. They goin in with a much stronger brand and consumer loyalty.

Agreed. Microsoft has an image problem. This is the first generation I sold my Xbox. The One has been barren.

Whatever allows for the cheapest price within reason, because too late isn't worth being somewhat cheaper, along with a worthy game or two. With PS4 in full control, there's no reason to launch early really, even if the specs ended up slightly weaker than Scarlett. They could launch later, but we're talking like March 2021 later at most, and while that's possible, it's definitely less likely than a Nov 2020 launch side by side. A later launch also means the specs need to be on par or superior to Scarlett.

I predict the launch dates will be in close proximity of each other, MS when asked about PS4's likely launch said we are ready whatever time frame they use, and the reasons they could confidently say that haven't changed, console production having so few players mean's any changes to the production cycles are fairly easy to see and categorise.

Research shows Video games  help make you smarter, so why am I an idiot

Now I almost want to convert to one of those people who believed Sony will release in 2019. It would be so exciting, counting down the days till November 2019! ...!I BELIEVE!

At the same time would be the wisest move, I think. If you launch first, people might decide to wait and see what happens when the other machine launches. If you launch later, then early adopters and people who can't wait, or perhaps don't even know that an alternative is on the way, might have already committed.
