Forums - Gaming Discussion - The major third party developer whose sudden loss would be the worst

Don't give a shit about third party anymore. They can go way of Midway and THQ and their ips still fucking find way back through another company. Look at EA they sit on so many ips. Maybe it would be good for industry if they go belly up. Least we would see some fucking revival of neglected ips.

Honestly, Crapcom could fall off the face of the earth at this point and I wouldn't care, and they used to be one of my favourite developers. Nowadays they're total garbage.

For that matter, 99% of third parties can go to hell for all I care.

Sega, and by extension, Atlus, would be a huge blow for me. Losing Sonic and Persona? No, thank you.

SNK and Gust

Actually, I have a new answer; Panic Button.

They've given us Doom 2016, Rocket League, Wolfenstein II, and Warframe on Switch, and they're currently porting Doom Eternal. This one small studio has done more for Switch owners than almost any of the big publishers.

Funny thing, I always felt that way about platform holders - while I always had some console laying around the house, since early 80s I was computer gamer first and mostly cared about what was coming from "3rd party" developers/publishers (though there's no such thing on computers)

I think you give too much credit to a porting studio, especially given that some other porting studios have shown they are as capable, or even more.

Others have indeed shown they are capable, but no other porting studio to my knowledge has brought over as many current gen titles as Panic Button.

I mean, QLOC's work on Hellblade is more impressive than PB's work in my opinion, but that's the only modern game they've brought over so far.

Others like Virtuos and Iron Galaxy have mostly just ported old last gen content. They've done a good job of doing so, but relics of last gen are inherently less interesting and impressive than modern titles like Doom and Wolfenstein II.

That's true, they are most prolific, I'm just saying there are others who have as much (or more) knowledge when it comes to porting to Switch, so even if Panic vanishes over night, nothing would really happen.

I dunno, without PB's ability to pump out decent Switch ports so quickly, I dunno if we would've gotten quite as many as other studios seem to take longer.

Well, I think they're yet to show how they handle a game that can't be cut from 60 to 30fps...Hellblade and Witcher are much more impressive ports that anything Panic have done so far.
