Man I really want this game - While I appreciate all the ports, I definitely crave just a straight up flashy brand new Switch title, as I haven't played a ton of those lately. Like the concept of light + dark worlds and the action-based gameplay.

But right now there's just too many games I'm burning through. Tales of Vesperia, Gears 5, Borderlands 2 DLC & 3, Mana Collection, Game Pass Stuff I want to try, plus stuff I gotta cover for reviews. Soon enough.. Maybe I'll jump on it if I see a price drop. Even if it's like $8 or something, just some incentive to pull the trigger. $60 is usually too much for me to shell out for a game unless it looks mindblowing.

Finished it this week and i like it a lot. Really diggin' the artstyle and the deep battle system, but i think it overstays it's welcome with almost 30h (i'm not particularly good at action games, though) and the last chapter is just busywork.

Just posting because I'll follow with my actual answer to OP later.

Bought it, and gonna start it up as soon as I finish my second route in Three Houses.

The sentence above is true.

I thought the first 8 hours was good, not great. I don't care too much for the investigation aspect of the game. It comes off as a bit tedious. Having said that the game continues to get better and better with every chapter. I am currently on chapter 8. In particular the battle system gets better with each chapter, by chapter 7 the battles are superb. I'm in the 8/10 or 9/10 camp thus far. Really good game, a must own thus far.

Edit

Art style is superb.

I am most interested in what people think about Astral Chain outside of being an Action game. The investigation and exploration parts; are they satisfying?

I think the Investigation and sidequests are pretty fun. One part that I disliked is Puzzle/Light-Platforming in the Astral Plane.

I've played like 2 hours. I like the game in general... but dodging is difficult AF. Specially compared to Bayonetta. I'm having serious problems getting the timing right with most enemy attacks.

I think you'll need more than 2 hours to master a complex battle system. I mean, you said it, it's not Bayonetta, which signifies new patterns to learn !

Dodging is hard because the camera is a bit weak. At times I find myself not knowing who is even hitting me.

I don't think is about the pattern... but the window in which the dodge is effective. It seems to be much smaller than in other Platinum games
