Gears have released and so far it is doing very well on Metacritic. Leave your opinions and love for the game.

100 VGC

Though a tad slow to get going, Gears 5 has reinvented itself in ways many of us didn't dare dream was possible, blending what we loved about the franchise with a fresh story, personable protagonists, and some of the best visuals and shooting mechanics we've seen.

95 AreaJugones

Gears 5 has become the biggest reference in Xbox One: The Coalition has managed to understand the roots of the franchise in order to create an excellent game that perfectly represents the IP and everything it stands for. We start saying goodbye to the current generation with an incredible game thanks to all of the new options added to both the story mode and the multiplayer.

90 Gaming Trend

Gears 5 is an impressive evolution in the Gears of War series with a campaign that feels like a huge leap forward and a dizzying amount of excellent multiplayer modes. The story isn’t without its issues, especially the final act which I’m sure will draw controversy, but that does little to hold back this awesome next chapter in the Gears saga.

90 App Triger

Gears 5 gives a lot of content for players to chew on. The campaign is by far the best part of this meal because of the deep character-driven story and the bombshell decision made near the end of the game. Multiplayer fans will not be disappointed with the updated versions of Horde and Versus. On the other hand, Escape feels out of place, but still brings fun and intuitive map building.

85 TrueGaming

Gears 5 adds some welcome additions to the formula and presents a compelling story that teases an epic climax, although its high time that we see a new Gears formula with the next instalment.

So far

96-100 - 5

91-95 - 7

86-90 - 18

81-85 - 3

75-80 - 12

sub 75 - 4

Reviews look great, with very few low scores and possible troll reviews at the moment. Gears fan rejoice.

There's a weird trend with Xbox's system sellers and low-to-mid 80s Metacritic scores. Halo MCC, Guardians, Gears Ultimate Edition, 4, and now 5.

I've been playing it for a couple of days and I constantly find myself in awe of how good it is, especially after (in my opinion) the misstep that was Gears 4.

I'm loving characters I hated, shallow characters have become complex, the story is great, and the combat feels fantastic. I haven't been this happy while playing a game since Spider-Man last year.

It's pretty great so far. I'm only at act 2 though. It has to be the best looking 60fps game on console now. I'm playing on X1X

Still waiting one more day for the official release.

Bit disappointed in the game after seeing Crowbat's evidence video though.

I expect Xbox exclusives to get modest scores. I think its partly because MS just doesn't make the type of games critics wants. I'm not even sure why Forza Horizon scores as well as it does versus a Gears game.

Meanwhile the games that often score in the 90s are generally too story driven for my taste or get praise for being artsy.

With that said, games that score in the 80s can still be very notable. They just aren't something critics are raving about, while consumers might.

PC version of this is scored a fair bit less than the X1 version... also find it strange that this is being referred to yet again as an exclusive but what can I say I guess exclusive means different things to different people (that's why cheating happens! ba dum tis!)

Wonder what the story is with the PC version though, less reviews for it maybe so it could just be that the higher rated Xbox-centric platforms have yet to publish a review for the PC port would think at this stage MS is very well versed at making games inside the UWP shell on Windows 10.

Nice one though it's score puts it perfectly in line with Astral Chain and Borderlands 3 so everyone has something awesome to play this month, see the user reviews for the X1 version of Gears are mostly review bomb free as well and it holds a higher user score than a critics score so maybe the critics are being extra strict on it as well. currently has 89% on Meta user score with 865 happy users playing it.

Digital Foundry has a video for Gears 5 if you're interested in the pc version. They say it's a very impressive port.

Most, if not all of the Xbox-centric sites gave it 10's and 9's. A not uncommon occurrence, as the same sites seem consistently attached to giving high scores to XB exclusives. I'm not trying to say anything regarding the quality of Gears 5. It's just a fact. Having watched the Jimpression on Gears 5, I think it looks great.

-There's also way fewer reviews on the PC version.

And to be fair, those sites sound more honest. After playing the game, its a 9/10 game easy.

Jim loves it and his a hard man to please.
