I just played Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts on Switch. It was nice, I thought. Then I played Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts on my SNES console and a CRT and thought.... wooooooaaaah! The controls are so direct and precise!!! The same with Super Mario World. In Super Tennis it was hard to even get one ball, although I played the game 50+ hours. I only have 20ms input lag in game mode on my flat TV, but the emulator on Switch seems to add quite a lot lag...

The games, which are emulating the Super FX chip (Star Fox, Yoshi's Island), don't even run properly with only a few frames per second. That's ridiculous.
Well, it's better than nothing, but far away from a real SNES experience...

That's... not true. The only ones that run poorly are Star Fox and Stunt Race FX... But those always ran bad to begin with.

Indeed both of those games (stunt race especially) dip down to the 10-15fps mark when stuff gets busy and really in emulation you can't up that frame rate because those games logic were tied to the framerate so if you make them smooth they become super fast. You can see videos on youtube of OC'd Super FX chips and it looks nice but borderline unplayable because of the speed.

https://youtu.be/78Qeqdnq0v8?t=182

Stage starts at the 3 minute mark. Realistically the extra frames of animation just aren't there from the CPU for the GPU (Super FX) to draw so all that happens is the CPU chucks out the frames it would have drawn anyway but at a rate to make up 60 of them per second, the end result is something which is 60fps but... just not at all playable.

It would be like trying to make a 24fps movie into a 60fps movie by showing those frames at 2.45x the speed they were meant to be displayed, it will result in a smooth 60fps film... but it will also sound like the chipmonks.

Fancy hearing me on an amateur podcast with friends gushing over one of my favourite games? https://youtu.be/1I7JfMMxhf8

It’s a shame though the games are not filling the full height of the screen... there is a border on top and the annoying buttons info on the bottom. Games could be much larger filling more of the Switch’s screen. Or is there a way to maximize the screen?

First time playing Super mario 2 : yoshi's island , and I love it more than Super mario world .

There is no way to stretch the screen to 16:9 you would need to use your TV to do that, the way to make the system use most of the screen is with 4:3 not pixel perfect. If you go to the left side of the screen on the game selection screen there is a cog called settings, untick the box at the end that says "show controls in game" will get rid of that stuff at the end.

Yoshi's Island is legit one of my favourite games of all time, from the level design and graphics to the scoring system which encourages you to search in every corner of the stages to find all the red coins and flowers. ( You can see red coins Vs regular ones in their golden state btw, there is a tiny difference in the graphic)

Also what I love about the game in commission to other 2d Mario games is there's no run button Yoshi just runs, that run button in the other Mario games just pretty much needs to be held down all the time so it made so much more sense to just have Yoshi run always. No cramp needed from holding a button all the time.

He was taking about height, not width though so he doesn't want the game to stretch to 16:9. Though the border at the top is only a few pixels from what I can see on youtube so hardly worth mentioning if the buttons at the bottom can be removed.

Predictions (Made July 2019)

LTD: PS4 - 130m, Switch - 110m, XBO - 52m       2019 : PS4 - 15m, Switch - 18.8m, XBO - 4.8m        2020: Switch - 22m (Peak Year)

His last line says to maximise the screen? That would be 16:9
