Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Luigi’s Mansion 3 will have an achievements-type feature

I hated achievements when they came into place, however over the course of time, achievements showcases progression and can show you and others that you finished the game.
I finished Mario Odyessey and Zelda BOTW, how can i prove this? I cannot unless they see my hours spent ingame and my lucky photos i took of me fighting the end boss etc.

Having achievements even just basic achievements like completing levels etc would be welcomed. They dont need to go full hardcore like in the Gears games where you need to play 1000 matches etc.

Meh.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Lots of Nintendo games have in-game achievements already.

I don't really care one way or the other about achievements. They're about as rewarding and fulfilling as getting a postcard. (Don't think about it. Don't think about it. Don't think about it!...

...ARGH, I THOUGHT ABOUT IT!)

Completely agree. A proper chat system as well. The only two games I have put serious time into on Switch are Mario and Pokemon. If they had a system wide Trophy system, I would have a huge reason to go back and grind through Mario Kart, New Super Mario, Mario Tennis, Zelda BOTW, and Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze. Without chat and a reward system, I just have too many better options to play on other platforms.

Interesting. Why would this be a reason to ‘grind’? Shouldn’t ‘having fun’ be the reason to grind? If just for recieving some arbitrary line somewhere saying you did something arbitrary, why even care in the slightest? Can’t you grind without that?

I’m honestly interested, for me there’s no point whatsoever. I never saw it, I must be missing something.

Of course I can play games just for the experience, but once I have ran that well dry, having some challanges to collect is always a nice reason for me to keep playing. When I am faced with the option of continuing to play a game on Switch, past its play for fun point, or playing something on PS4, PS Vita, or Xbox also past the point of, just for fun, having Trophies/Achievements gives me something to work for. Being able to do something I enjoy, while earning a Trophy/Achievement, and some cash while doing it is a win-win in my book.

That said, Trophies/Achievements arn't for everyone. If they don't matter to you, then your not missing anything.

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. Help make existence a beautiful thing.

Okay thanks, I can get behind that; after you’re done with everything you wanted to do, you use the remaining trophies as a sort of expert challenges.

Makes sense, I could see the fun in that.

I couldn't care less about achievements. They just get in my way. They take me back to reality when I'm immersed in the game. I always turn em off. Also, I don't need to prove myself in front of other people, specially about something as mundane as a videogame.

Finally... doing something not because the game suggests you or tell you to do it within its world and rules, but because the developers directly tell you seems very dumb to me. But to each their own...

About time, I will always pick a game with achievements over one without. Probably one of the main reasons I only pick up my switch every couple of weeks, despite having every single 1st party game released so far on it. Even though i don't chase achievements anymore, I just like having them there as a way to show my progress in every game iv played.

I remember thinking achievements were cool when they first released, but got over them rather quickly. I can't say some arbitrary inconsequential 'award' does anything for me.

For me they're not rewards, but a digital footprint of what I played/did, and when.

Yeah same, i love looking over my list of around 700+ games I've gotten a trophy on and seeing my progress. It also motivates me to go back to certain games aswell and play them again.

Makes no difference to me whatsoever. For me, it's Achievements in every game or I don't care. Just one game=a leaderboard.
It's the reason why I didn't care about trophies on PlayStation 3. I'd played so many games before trophies that the late addition of them just didn't feel like like a priority to me.
