Nice nice Switch is on top. This is indeed the calm before the storm as Shiken put it.

I kinda agree, I think when the Switch Lite drops the baseline for Switch will go up by a degree to hold it up, maybe the PS4 will surpass it when Deaths Stranding or the AAAvengers game comes out? Or... I wonder would most who want those games have the system already, DS especially, but then with the Avengers game you know there will be awesome hardware bundles with that and the PS4 I would think like there was with the Spiderman game. |
In first world countries i would say yes or at the very least the vast majority of them probably do, however in third world countries like my own... lets say there is plenty of people who would love to buy a PS4 but cant, not only is the PS4 expensive for a lot of people over here but its actually more expensive to buy it here than in 1st world countries, the PS4 here is closer to 400 dollars instead of 300.
A 100 dollar pricedrop would do wonders for the system in places like South America.
Well, the Switch just went up for pre-order on Amazon Japan, and it immediately shot right to the top of the charts. September is going to be a very interesting month.

Yeah I expect they will stay relatively close until the 20th when the Lite launches, no big system-selling games between now and then to my knowledge, plus a lot of people will be holding off on getting a Switch til the revision hits.

In 3 weeks the Switch will activate war mode with Switch Lite, 2D Zelda, Luigis Mansion and Pokemon coming in November. PS4 won't have a chance YOY, even with Death Stranding. But yes, still impressive PS4 sales... |
Don't forget Dragon Quest 11, that could be heavy hitter in Japan.

I don't think PS5 is having a real effect on PS4 sales yet; it's still well over a year away and hasn't been properly revealed.

Agreed, especially in Japan. Only thing I can see possibly limiting the explosion is if they haven't supplied enough stock to meet demand. |
Aaand, it looks like there will be shortages, with at least one Japanese retailer warning customers to expect them:
