Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Think Nintendo will acquire any studios in the near future?

Also, I'd like to see them acquire or make deals with Indie studios more often like Yatch Club, Wayforward, Playtonic Games or Shi'nen !

Shin'en Multimedia

Shin'en and Platinum however would be pretty good fits in my opinion. However, becoming a subsidiary might clash with the studio's philosophy to create new, original IPs, and not sure if the owners of either company would want such a deal unless it would be lifesaver.

Given what Shin'en have accomplished on a shoestring budget in games like Fast RMX and Nano Assault Neo, I would love to see what they could do with the backing of Nintendo.

Sega makes a lot of money off PC, in fact I wouldn't be surprised if that was a majority of their sales come from. They have the Total War series which sold really well recently with it's China game, and of course those titles make a lot off expansions, heck they even licensed out their studio Creative Assembly for Microsoft's strategy games. That's why their "AAA" announcement at Gamescom was a PC-oriented Civilization-competitor. They also release the Yakuzas on there. If Persona ever came to PC, I would have no doubt that it would by far be their most profitable platform.

Sega also has: Endless Space, Company of Heroes, Dawn of War, Phantasy Star, Bayonetta.. And saw some big success with Yakuza and Shenmue... But they are making a hard focus on the PC market now as that is where they are seeing the greatest profit growth.

Other companies are seeing similar like Capcom and Square.

Together with Football Manager (which has sold over 1 million yearly since 2013) and Two Point Hospital (which Sega acquired in May this year). Their biggest success is of course Creative Assembly – the latest Total War: Three Kingdoms sold 1 million in a week and is the biggest concurrent played strategy game on Steam.

As a Civilization fan, I can't wait to see how Amplitude Studios' Humankind turns out and I hope to see another Alien: Isolation for consoles and PC some time in the future.

Sega is huge on PC. At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if they dethrone Blizzard to become the biggest publisher on the platform.

Does anyone think about Marvelous and Grasshopper Manufacture? I think they fit very well

Zanark best Inazuma Eleven pg

I don't think they will. Only possible purchase i see is Next Level Games

Nintendo has less need to buy studios. Their platforms are first and foremost, vehicles to sell their own software. Not to say third parties don't matter or sell, but every Nintendo console lives or dies based on the strength of Nintendo's own blockbuster games. Second, Nintendo's stated multiple times that they're not interested in buying out studios. To them, games are only as good as the people behind them, and if those people leave, then you just have a name and facility, but none of the talent or culture that made those games great. This is why Nintendo prefers partnerships over acquisitions. The studio keeps its freedom, but Nintendo's marketing, characters, producers, and war chest are all readily available whenever they sign one of their games.

The single plataform bestselling game is on Nintendo plataform: Mario & Sonic Olympic Games.

How about Level 5?

StarCraft 2 sold 1.5 million copies in 48 hours on PC and 11 million copies in total, so Creative Assembly is still a little short of that.
Diablo 3 pushed 20~ million copies on PC all up if I remember correctly.
Overwatch, WarCraft would likely be pushing 10's of millions of copies each as well... Sega is doing really really well, but not Blizzard well just yet, but time will tell.
Sega is doing all the right things though... But one thing is for sure, they do push out more titles than Blizzard. Haha

They should expand their first party studios.

More games for their platform = more platform sales = more software sales for anyone making games on the platform = more third parties on the platform = more platform sales = more software sales for anyone making games on the platform.

I'm surprised that console makers don't do it more often.

Monolith Soft just opened it's fourth branch in the compagny, it has been growing exponentially. I think Nintendo is doing well on this side of things, not mentionning they've said to push young and new devs lately for their games.

Nice! I didn't know they were growing so fast.

I LOVE ICELAND!

Level-5 and Platinum Games would be great acquisitions for Nintendo if they ever seek to buy studios. However, I am pleased with how things are going at the moment between these two companies working with Nintendo on the Switch. Platinum Games has Astral Chain coming in a few days and Bayonetta 3 in the future, both exclusives to the Switch. While Level-5 has mostly done ports at the moment, Yokai Watch 4 and a few other games like Inazume Eleven Ares are nice original titles (granted, most of them are Japan-only at the moment, with only YW4 being scheduled for a Western release).

Nintendo just doesn't seem like one to just buy out studios for one reason or another. I think that's fine, considering that they're still publishing so many damn titles every year so they're not short of releasing content.
