Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Think Nintendo will acquire any studios in the near future?

With the recent Sony purchase of Insomniac and Microsoft's not too long ago buy up of studios (2018 right?), I wonder if the Big N will be announcing any studio purchases.

And if so, would it be something like the Insomiac purchase that is basically defacto theirs already (like Good Feel, the people who do the yarn Yoshi games and Kirby's Epic Yarn, or even Game Freak) or something that makes people go 'WHYYYYYYY' over the impending loss of multiplat titles?

The Democratic Nintendo fan....is that a paradox? I'm fond of one of the more conservative companies in the industry, but I vote Liberally and view myself that way 90% of the time?

Yacht Club?

They have a presentation soon just announced. What if Nintendo bought them, and funded an HD 3d ShovelKnight game (Yooka Laylee shows how cool that character can look in modern visuals).

As far as who I'd like them to buy:
Platinum - They've demonstrated they can make high quality, exclusive games on Switch. Would give their platforms more of a hardcore feel if they could secure not just some of their exclusives, but ALL of them.
Ubisoft - Would give them a hardcore audience AND a very strong foothold in Europe (their weakest of the major regions % wise).
Bethesda - Would enable them to have MUCH stronger western game feel.

And yes, I'm aware all three of these, especially the last two, are insanely larger companies, but I don't think Nintendo will buy low-mid tier studios. I think they will go big (with their billions in excess cash) or go home (build their own studios).

....Somehow I am pretty sure that if Nintendo bought Bethesda and made them only Nintendo and mobile (and let's be honest, that is what would happen) that the internet would probably go nuts.

Just imagine it: no more PC Fallout or Elder Scrolls.

I am pretty sure that is 'darkest timeline' material for many people.

Maybe Next Level Games.

Abed's darkest timeline, really? Are Jeff and Any FINALLY together in this timeline?

And yeah I know it may sound crazy, but think about the one thing Nintendo is lacking; a major studio that pumps out western game after western game after western game. Not Retro Studios (one game every 5 years) pace, but something at least every year. They could spend decades trying to build a new western studio up to do that, potentially wasting tons of money, or they could just buy a major western studio. Disney buying Lucasfilm and Marvel has led to a TOOOON of profit for them. The Fox acquisition, while it isn't great right now, probably will lead to a bucketload of profit too. Why can't Nintendo do the same thing in the video game industry?

The same argument could be made for Microsoft buying Konami or SEGA or some other Japanese studio in order to bolster their sales in Asian markets.

I would like to see them either buy Rare back, or at least the Banjo ip. Platinum, Playtonic, and Wayforward would be good purchases. Atlus would be expensive but I would buy them, having every Persona game exclusivity on Nintendo consoles would be huge.

Yes, but I hope they don't. I don't like the exclusivity race we're experiencing, it is going to bite us in the ass sooner or later to us all.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Nintendo will probably stick with contractual work but I think the company that would most benefit from an acquisition would be PlatinumGames - so they don't shut down in-between Nintendo releases.

They have the Money so perhaps they may, although many have said in different threads that Nintendo prefer to partner than buy.

I don't see the point of comparing Nintendo to Sony and Microsoft's recent acquisitions, the 2 latter rely mostly on third party titles while Nintendo lives on its exclusives
