Forums - Nintendo Discussion - New (S)Witcher 3 gameplay, from Nintendo

For some reason it looks worse here than it did in the DF video, which I thought was pretty good. Weird. I even went back just now to skim the DF video. The stuttering in this vid is kinda nasty.

I genuinely can't. It seems like a great game and Switch-level graphics have never stopped me enjoying a game before.

Well it seems like this game will have below average graphics compared to several Switch games. But yes that shouldn't stop your enjoyment.

With a game like this or other ambitious PS4/Xbone ports like Doom, I expect going in that the resolution or textures won't be as crisp as games built for the Switch, that's just the inevitable price you pay for the fact that the core rendering framework was designed for much more powerful hardware.

From this particular footage though I'm actually impressed at how good the water looks, particularly the rolling ocean.

I wouldn't say it's overall one of the prettiest games on Switch, but I think it's almost certainly the most technologically advanced, at least so far.

Technically advanced and with a very different objective/gameplay than the other games on Switch. So it is a great addition to anyone that isn't playing in Multiplat or prefer portable.

Not my type of game and also I would prefer paying less for the game and more performance like I would on my PS4. Still that doesn't take away any on this effort to port a must have on the gen.

Yeah it's definitely not the version for everyone, and certainly not for those who place a lot of value on graphical fidelity, but if the game really is as great as folks say it is, then I think it's a good thing that new audiences get to play it.

And just from an academic point of view I find ports like this fascinating; I've always been interested in the technical side of how things work, and seeing games converted to hardware they were never intended to run on appeals to that side of me haha

Just like engineers of NES up to PS1 had to use a lot of creativity to work around system limitations.

Exactly, or like how some Wii games used clever techniques to "trick" its GPU into doing effects it wasn't designed for like normal mapping, or more recently image reconstruction in 8th gen games.

Looks decent. I'd like to play the game again. But, I feel like it would make more sense for me to play on PS4 Pro, rather than Switch. My first playthrough was on XB1.

If you own a PS4/Xbone/PC and aren't interested in playing on the go, those systems are probably the better option for you. This version isn't meant to replace those, it's primarily for those of us who don't have those platforms or who want to play it portably.

I was going to say it's mostly about reaching a new audience, those who only play on Nintendo platforms/handhelds, but I've seen more than one person who has played the console version say they're getting it again just to play it on the bus/train/camping trip/toilet.

People say one should get it on more powerful systems. The thing is, I have a PS4, beside a Switch, and obviously it would look and run better there. But, there’s a much bigger chance I’d actually play such a big game all the way through on Switch, because it’s just more convenient. There’s a higher chance that I pick it up and play in handheld mode any time of the day than play on tv, It’d be a shame if I ended up wasting the money on a game on PS4 I’ll end up barely playing. All the graphics in the world wouldn’t make up for that. On Switch there’s just a higher chance that I’ll get my money’s worth. It’s happened time and time again; I have RDR2, obviously a good game, but I barely get around to playing it, I think I still only have about 3 or 4 hours. Meanwhile I got Mortal Kombat 11 on Switch, looks like crap but I played that ten times more by now. Playing on Switch is just more convenient, and that is worth a lot.

Not to say that I’ll buy Witcher 3 on Switch. I don’t know yet, and if I do it’d be an impulse-buy, but at least, this has been my reasoning when it comes to multiplats.

In other thread I said (to summarize) "do yourself a favour and play it somewhere else, if it's an option, unless you care for handhled mode" and I guess it makes perfect sense for you to play it on Switch, if you can't get around playing games at home.

That said, even something as low as nVidia 1050 will give over 30fps in 1080p on Ultra on PC...and it's quite pretty game to look at, especially at such high gfx settings.
