Disney wanted more than they got in the previous deal, Sony said no. I wouldn't say Sony is "fucking dumb".

Except Disney and Marvel are the ones who have managed to get this character back to the spot he is currently in. Sony failed with rebooting the character not once but TWICE on their own. If they're the ones who were doing most if it then I wouldn't be surprised if they wanted more money for it.

Again, how do you look at just the past few months with Avengers: Endgame and then Spider-Man: Far From Home and all that success and think "Nah, but we don't need Marvel". That's why Sony is dumb.

Just because they didn't want to lose their grip on it further doesn't mean they don't recognise the role marvel played. They can recognise that Spiderman would be much bigger with Marvel support while also not wanting to agree to hand over more.

It sucks for consumers but it's business, and neither party takes the full blame. Disney wanted more, Sony didn't want to give them more.

Predictions (Made July 2019)

LTD: PS4 - 130m, Switch - 110m, XBO - 52m       2019 : PS4 - 15m, Switch - 18.8m, XBO - 4.8m        2020: Switch - 22m (Peak Year)

Tbh yeah you're probably right and my first comments are a bit reactionary, this is just news I wasn't expecting and it really does fuck over all of what was put into place the past few years. I have to wonder what Sony thinks is the current plan here though. Do they think people will be interested in a non-MCU Spider-man movie when the character's arc was literally built around being in the MCU with people like Iron Man? I certainly won't be.

I'm not sure they even have a plan at this point. As long as they don't do another reboot, that would be insane, and hillarious. It's also possible that one of them will cave and a new deal will be struck.

Um, are you sure it isn't a case like the Hulk rights, and that Tom H can appear in non Spiderman films in the MCU just fine: Like showing up in a Daredevil film when that issue clears up?

The Democratic Nintendo fan....is that a paradox? I'm fond of one of the more conservative companies in the industry, but I vote Liberally and view myself that way 90% of the time?

Which is what I'm really hoping for! I mean, if Disney can backtrack on James Gunn and reinstate him, they can go back to how things were with the Sony deal, right? Obviously a lot more is at stake here, but it was working for them, why fuck it up?!

The backlash alone will force Sony and Disney to work something out. Otherwise, maybe Sony can make a "home" spiderman 3 with all the characters except the MCU tied ones like Tony's friends. They could just call iron man "him" or "he" or something. Have some no name from stark interact with the guy. Then maybe they can bring venom to New York and get something done. I would have loved a Sony+Disney collaboration for venom vs spiderman but I guess it ain't happening

Just a guy who doesn't want to be bored. Also

Wow. That relationship broke down even faster than I thought it would.

All good things must come to an end. It was good while it lasted.

If I still gave a fart about the MCU, I'b be PISSED! Anyway, as a Sony fanboy, and someone who is no fan of Disney: Fuck Disney! Just in general. Fuck their cinematic pablum. Fuck their identity politics. Fuck their weak-ass, creatively bankrupt remakes. Fuck their monolithic presence in the world of entertainment. Yeah! Vinland Saga!

As for the business end of this as it concerns Sony......It's an iffy move. However, if people like the movies, I don't think it's going to matter much if Falcon doesn't have a cameo in the next movie. Or whoever. Most of the integration with the rest of the MCU would have been mostly fluff until the next big story convergence, which is a ways away. Hopefully the MCU train will have pile-driven into the valley by then.

So... are they just gonna' like, pretend Peter/Spidey died in the MCU and run along with that, or just forget he existed and have all the other characters that have met him act dumb about it all? Not sure how it's gonna' work going forward, but this really stinks!

^ thats gonna look stupid.... this hurts disney as much as it does sony.

Basically Disney too greedy.
That said, I never felt Spiderman fit in well into the MCU.
(just like hawkeye + black widow + captain america) (rest of MCU are badasses)
