Sony aquires "Insomniac Games"

Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony aquires "Insomniac Games"

Okay, now Sony need to work with Remedy and Platinum.
If PS5 has SSO/Alan wake 2/quantum break 2(not actually sure who owns that IP) and Scalebound - or really any dragon riding based RPG - I will laugh.

This is not even slightly Interesting. Why buy a studio that by choice, would only develop for your consoles anways?

Gonna pretend Sunset Overdrive never happened?

Actually, Sony was Insomniac's first choice to publish Sunset, but Sony turned it down. That is why Insomniac shopped the idea around to 3rd party publishers and MS, and MS ultimately chose to greenlight it.

This is a HUGE acquisition, but at the same time something we were all expecting to happen much, much sooner!

The studio that everyone knew was in the sight of Sony for a potential acquisition gets acquired by Sony.

There's almost no surprise here besides the timing

Nonetheless, a great addition for Sony to bolster it's lineup of studios ^^

About 20 years late... which does, though, tell how fitting this is. I'm a bit sad because this might mean Insomniac wasn't doing too fell financially so this might have been half-forced, but at the same time, Sony is definitely the right owner for Insomniac considering the history of the two. As someone whose main platform is PC, I'm somewhat disappointed, but like I said, this is quite fitting.

Quantum Break is completely Microsoft's IP, Alan Wake was always Remedy's IP just MS had publishing rights much like Sunset Overdrive.

If I remember correctly the problem was that Sony wanted ownership of the IP and Insomniac wanted to keep it themselves and then they struck a deal with MS so they could keep the IP and MS had publishing rights.

Sony hopes to get a bigger cut of the Spider-Man money, yet the choice to purchase now was pretty bad. Should've done that after the disaster that was Fuse.

Huh, I thought they were already Sony 1st party...

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Does that mean Stormland is still an Oculus exclusive ?

How? Spider-Man was a big success and obviously Sony is interested to contract them again for a sequel. Insomniac was in a perfect position as they could've just told Sony to look for someone else to develop Spider-Man 2 if they didn't pay the price they wanted them to pay.
