For me the only explanation for it is that they just invented an excuse because they are working on Minecraft 2 and will use the assets they developed to Super Duper. I refuse to accept they would be so incompetent that they couldn't make it even if limiting to X1X and PC.

They are masters of software design and unlike somewhere like Apple they've created both Software packages and OS's for such a wide range of hardware, you could go off and install windows server 2016 onto an intel Atom if you wanted to and strip it down to the point where you could use it as a simple DHCP server for your network if you wanted to, but I just mean that if MS can't basically set up a game to allow it to make use of 100s of GB of RAM and a 2080TI but then scale that back to someone playing on a potato with a 710 that they got off ebay by searching for "gaming PC" (honestly check that shit out, it annoys me so much that they can list those trash as gaming PC's) but yeah scaling for hardware is something the game should be able to do fine, heck even give the user some options, on the Switch disable the setting by default, offer some aspects of it like the amazing light shafts and allow users to scale what is important to them, super shiny graphics with massive draw distances, or 60fps locked. I mean on Switch already you can even choose between rendering just 4 chunks around you and scaling it out to.... I think 14 but I'm not 100% on that.

I'm just saying, this should have been a relatively easy job, especially given they've had 2 years to work on it, if someone was doing any work on this for 2 years they must have realised months ago that it was never going to be released since the internet interest dropped to the point where so little was being done on it.

And if you waited 2 years to announce you forfeit the development, just do a R* and pretend to be deaf when Agent is concerned.

Geez, how could they let something like that happen?  If they can't release a graphics mod for a very popular game, I seriously have even more doubts about how they handle their studios going forward.

Woah, I’m shocked that you have big doubts about Microsoft studios. Lord knows no one else ever cancels anything.

Personally I’m not surprised it was canceled, it was supposed to release two years ago and they were very silent in 2018 about it. From the sound of things, it was just too much work to get it running at an acceptable level across all the different platforms Minecraft is on. I’d rather them put out an update that performs well rather than something that is shit, kind of like the mercy killing of Scalebound.

Could also mean they have a sequel coming and are focusing on that instead of giving the old game such a massive update. Of course, Dungeons is also coming, my kids are more excited about that than anything I’ve ever seen them get excited about outside of maybe Luigi’s Mansion 2.

Point being, they have their plate full. If Windows and consoles were all they needed to worry about, I’m sure the update would have been out long ago. But they have different versions on Mac, which iirc used the Java version? Plus handhelds. Plus mobile. Must be insane amounts of work.

And woah, I'm so shocked that you choose to continue to ignore these constant negatives coming from the Xbox department.  Let me just make sure you are aware, the gaming public at large isn't going to simply ignore it.  MS has constantly shown things this gen as part of their "biggest E3's evers" that have never come to fruition, or have released with a collective meh from the gaming public.  They have shown very poor management when it comes to their studios, in both output frequency and quality. And that they will promise the sky with no intention of delivering, just so they don't seem so far behind the competition.

Too much work, huh?  Is that the excuse that we're going to hear next gen if their releases continue to be subpar or spaced apart?  I don't think Sony or Nintendo will fall back on that excuse for their games.  And Scalebound wasn't a mercy killing.  It was MS meddling in the development process to the point that they had a game too big for the amount of money they were willing to pay.

Game has 176million sales and they don't follow up on a huge graphic update for it which they deem to be "too ambitious" If I promised something to 100+m potential users you know what's too ambitious? Thinking they'll be fine with you cancelling work you promised them 2 years ago with no alternative offered... just... Oh you know that update from 2 years ago? yeah, cba sorry, we demo'd it 2 years ago but apparently making it work was just too much of a bother for one of the largest software companies in the world. Tragic behaviour in terms of what they deliver compared to what MS promises, I think to have faith in their PR spins in 2019 is to be having a level of faith which would be normally associated with religious groups.

This was a promis from back in 2017 I think.... along with VR and VR games, comeing to Xbox.
There was supposed to be a partnership with Occulus Rift, from Xbox.

Nothing came of it though.
Xbox One X, never got any form of VR (the promis).

Xbox doesnt have a good track record this gen, when it comes to keeping things it says or promises its fans.
Ontop of their mis-communications... Trust in Xbox as a brand hasnt been this low in a while (imo), and you can tell from its fan base (on youtube/twitter ect).

Also remember Halo Lense?
Back when xbox fans where makeing fun of PSVR? claiming it + mixed reality, would be the next big thing, and be for the Xbox?

What happend? it turned out to be a 5000$+, and not really usable for a console.... and not for mass market.
I wouldnt be surprised if theres less than 50 of them ever made, and research & developement into it, is just dropped.

How dis-honest was all that Minecraft VR crap with the Halo Lense they showed off?
Like normal people would ever be able to buy one or play minecraft like that... even what they showed was not actually what it was like wearing the headset.

It's just like Kinect all over again.  BS demos that show the device to be more accurate than it truly is.  Being able to scan objects into the game.  Project Milo turned out to be a complete lie.  Unfortunately, that worked during the 360 era, but it didn't help them this gen.  Even tried to fake how powerful the XBO was at the beginning of the gen with fake playable demos because the PS4 was more powerful.  Or the power of the cloud.  And I think it won't help them next gen, either, as I think gamers are getting wise to the lies.

I fear DonFerrari may be right on this one.  They may be lying, again, and are just using all of what they made for the Super Duper Pack to make a Minecraft 2.  The problem with that is I don't think that's going to turn out like they want.  For one, the lie will be obvious.  They probably want people to pay a full $20-$40 (hell, wouldn't be surprised if they tried $60) for a Minecraft 2, instead of having people buy a $5-$10 pack to get the same results. I could see some backlash for that.  And two, Minecraft isn't exactly the kind of game you make a sequel to.  I don't really know what they could even add to it that hasn't been added to it already in the form of updates.  And it's not like it has a deep story to take people on.

How can I be a fan of something which was canned? Obviously it looked awesome at E3 and I own MC on PC/PS3/4/Vita/Switch if you're asking me why I would be interested in another canned MS project.

I'll be fine though, plenty of other titles to play from companies who tend to release things they hype up at E3.

They've removed the video focusing on just that update but it did look quite nice in this hype package. Dem God rays

Like I said before, I feel sorry for your loss. I had no idea you were super excited about this graphic update. Maybe call MS and place your opinion in with them. I mean.. a game cancelation is 1st world problems and horrible news, especially to Minecraft fans.

Here's hoping they have something coming in the near future to satisfy your needs.

I'm glad the public doesn't ignore it. That's how the brand has taken a massive 180 and has me using the service more than ever. Even got me using the Xbox app on PC.

If "too much work" is what you took from my comment then you lack reading comprehension. And Scalebound was very much a mercy killing. Put it out of our misery. Every E3 has been so much better not having to sit through that nonsense. God is real.

There is no point in using xbox app on PC if you only use Steam right?

Well if you only use Steam then no, I don’t think there’d be any reason to use the Xbox app. I use it for PC GamePass.

39k sales in a week, here's hoping they have something coming in the near future to suit anyones needs.

But I forgot, you said that having a console that isn't selling is a good thing wasn't it. Yeah that's great for them, maybe can a few more projects and it can really make those sales come down to where you think the brand could get higher on this table lol.

If console sales make your games better than sure, to me, sales don't improve a games quality so no, I couldn't care less as long as the company I am using is making enough money to stay relevant that's all that matters to me.

I will be in the minority here, but I actually liked the WiiU, it had great games on it. Do I care what it sold weekly while playing some of its great games? no. You sound like you care more for the board of sales than the games and that's perfectly fine. You do you, I do me.

Hoping for your sake they make that Minecraft Graphic Pack for you. Honestly don't be up set, there is a lot of Minecraft going around these days. I recommend trying that new Minecraft Dungeons, that actually looks quite decent, ill be checking it out. I hope it sells well to get your attention.

MAU is more important financially than profits.

Or how many bullets were fired on Gears of War.
