Forums - Gaming Discussion - [UPDATE] [EPIC] Rocket League will remove gambling from the game later this year

UPDATE!

https://old.reddit.com/r/RocketLeague/comments/cmu0nf/crates_leaving_rocket_league_later_this_year/

Comments by the devs have made me a bit less enthused now. While lootboxes may be leaving it seems it's gonna be replaced with a system that will still rely on randomness to some extent. They have mentioned that there will still be value in trading items as some items might be harder to come by. This is most likely referring to a shop with rotating items but it could also be something more insidious.

Still better than lootboxes probably.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here at Psyonix, and Epic Games as a whole, we are dedicated to creating the best possible experience for our players all over the world. In pursuit of that goal, later this year we will remove all paid, randomized Crates from Rocket League, replacing them with a system that shows the exact items you’re buying in advance. This is similar to changes implemented earlier this year by the Fortnite Save the World team.

Rocket Pass Premium, DLC Cars, and Esports Shop items will continue to be offered for direct purchase alongside our new system.

We will share more information, including timelines and roll-out specifics, in the coming months.

Turns out the formerly best game in the world will yet again become the best game in the world.

HAIL EPIC!

Hail Epic for resorting to the pass model?

Why not just allow for unlocks via progression, cheevos and general points earned?. Those are all completely free and require no extra dosh to spend and aren't [predatory either.

Step right up come on in, feel the buzz in your veins, I'm like an chemical electrical right into your brain and I'm the one who killed the Radio, soon you'll all see

So pay up motherfuckers you belong to "V"

I think there are laws in China against not stating the drop percentage of crates. So it's no suprise that they are moving to the season pass model entirely.

That's pretty cool, think a lot more games should use this sort of thing, going with a seasonal battle pass, you know how much you need to pay/play to unlock the items you see right there in the path, no gambling worries and nothing outstandingly terrible which is going to rope kids into spending crazy money to get 1 particular player, would really be nearly impossible to rework ultimate team into something like this, but give it some more pressure and see what happens.

Why not check me out on youtube and help me on the way to 2k subs over at www.youtube.com/stormcloudlive

Loot is fun, just not when you are gambling for it with real money. But cool for them. :)

It's a step in the right direction and it's all thanks to Epic's money. That's why hail epic in this particular instance, because it would most likely not have happened otherwise.

We don't know the new system yet but if it's just "buy what you see" I'm completely fine with it, considering RL's scope and their efforts towards esports.

BTW RL does have unlocks via progression.

Thank god for epic and the epic games store!

That sounds awesome! No more finger-crossing!

Eh. I think this is the first time Epic has got some goodwill since the moneyhatting started. This is definitely a nice move, but the bottom line is still negative, just not as much.
