Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Captain Toad free for a week (in Japan)

Heads up, everybody who's got a Switch and a Nintendo Online subscription in Japan.

You can play Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker for free until August 11, 6pm.

Should be enough time to finish it.

Do you think this will come to other regions, too?

Maybe they'll repeat it with other games?

Does this make it (more) worth the subscription fee?

Oh wow, that's kinda cool, sort of like psn+/xbl free games... but a big title but for a limited time access to the full game.
I would love some extra stuff to come with the online service but honestly as someone who is completely hooked on Tetris99 that alone will have me subbed for the next few years, anything else like free games is just icing on the cake... but the free NES offerings are stale icing... stale shit tasting icing.

I'd like if they did this with fire emblem that way I can play for the week and really see if I like it before I buy it

I played Captain toad on Wii u. I think it's a great game. I just can't justify spending on it again for switch. If it were free in the US, I would certainly put some more time into it.

Come to think of it, it was probably my favorite surprise (in that it was something I had basically no expectations for, and it turned out to be great) for that system.

Someone was kind enough to give this game to me for free already :P

Just for the record, Europe (and I believe NA as well) are getting Mario Tennis Aces to play for free for a week.

btw, if you have the Nintendo Switch online service in a different region say... I have it in Europe you can go onto the Japanese eshop and download this title.... HOWEVER, the title can't be opened in the home region profile and if I click to open it on my Japanese account I get offered the chance to buy a Japanese year of Nintendo online service.

So just to save you guys some bandwidth, you'll be able to download it, and it has a countdown timer on the game on the dashboard... 5 days and 13 hours for me right now, but without buying a online sub from the region it's free in you won't be able to open or play it on any profile. Now, I'm off to delete 1.6GB of Japanese toadstool... or.. would he be called Captain Shitake there?

Such a cute/fun game

If anyone wants to try this game out btw, there is a rather comprehensive demo of it available in all regions eshop, it's definitely worth a look at and isn't a $60 title either, it's a modestly priced WiiU port, more titles should follow this pricing model imo, would love to see a $39 HD Windwaker or Twilight Princess.

Funny idea, but he's called "Kinopio" in Japanese.
