Forums - Gaming Discussion - Nintendo fans in China protest Genshin Impact announce at ChinaJoy 2019, claiming that it shamelessly copies BOTW

Looks alright, but I'd hope for a good English translation and decent performance for a PC port, otherwise I'll pass.

Also, while we're on the "imitation is the sincerest form of flattery", imagine making millions off of your own idea or work, then having someone else copy it and change a few things. Artists get pissed at this and you also have the copyright law, which China is known for not following, yet still desiring to make millions from other;'s work.

There's a reason that law exists, please don't even begin tot ry removing it with a mere phrase, as if it absolves copying directly.

Step right up come on in, feel the buzz in your veins, I'm like an chemical electrical right into your brain and I'm the one who killed the Radio, soon you'll all see

So pay up motherfuckers you belong to "V"

for those saying this is a copy of BOTW..... watch that video of the game, look at how every single area the character is running around looks like boxed in area's   WHICH ARE ALMOST ALL COMPLETELY FLAT, have you guys not seen any footage even of Breath of the Wild? There is a small handful of area's in the whole game which are in any way flattened out and those are very outstanding in how they have been protected from the calamity.

The fighting mechanics in this game look way closer to a dynasty warriors type title than anything seen in breath of the wild, again I think you would need to have only ever seen a screenshot 2 years ago to think this game is a copy paste of botw... the only thing which you could say was the same or similar is the grass effect on the ground, but if that and the semi cell shaded look is where the similarities end then you might want to take a look at games like Cel Damage which is 100% a copy paste of WindWaker.... as long as you disregard the fact that Cel Damage is a multiplayer vehicular deathmatch type game.... it's exactly windwaker!

To add to your comment, this company (mihoyo) has been using this colorful cel shaded anime graphic style for a while now, for example their previous game (Honkai Impact 3rd) also uses this exact same graphic style, the only difference is that its set on a futuristic sci fi setting so the similarities to BOTW are not apparent, however of course if they take this to a fantasy medieval setting its gonna look similar.

But you wanna know what the kicker is? this game was released BEFORE BOTW in 2016, so they have been using this exact same colorful cel shaded graphic style before BOTW came out.

Knowing this i do not see this as them blatantly copying BOTW graphic style, but obviously they are just continuing to work with the same graphic style they have been using for years now, obviously now on a new setting.

eeh i can see some inspiration but I don't think it's a complete ripoff..game looks more like an action rpg

Yeah, then again this is China we are talking about: The land of copying and knock-offs of all kinds.

If you wish to surprise me with video-games related news from China, let me know when some company over there is in the spot light for actually making an original video game, cause then I'll be like: Holy Shit, no way, I can't believe it, tell me more !!!

They say imitation is the greatest form of flattery afterall.

That's what I wanted to say. Sure, some similarities to BOTW are clearly there. But other stuff too. I did think a bit of Dark Souls at the fight with the big monster. Also I don't see any physics system as BOTW has.

Overall an interesting looking game. Does it come to the west?

You should post more often.

HI 3rd is one of the most visually appealing mobile games I've come across.

It is indeed one of the best looking ones.

Japan needs to step it up, looking at many of the games showed at China Joy even though in terms of gameplay many of them look rough, at least visually they are either superior or very superior to many of the Japanese games ive grown up playing, and when you realize that this game (Genshin Impact) actually runs on a smartphone... just think in terms of visuals what they could do if they focused on a PS4.

At least the newest "Tales of" game finally improved the graphics and looks like it belongs in this generation.

Wow, it looks almost exactly like Zelda.

Yeah, I think this qualifies as plagiarism. the Nintendo ninjas(lawyers) are coming for sure.

I got bashed by saying that Zelda also copied a lot of mechanics from previous games, which is true. And a lot of what BOTW did simply improves on previous mechanics from other games, which is true. But some of this stuff in this game is shameless in how they got a bit too inspired.

Personally I think it looks much better than BOTW Visually, combat seems a bit more interesting but the physics system, runes, and overall complexity of the game engine aren't there. But it's highly obvious how they were heavily inspired by BOTW, almost to an uncomfortable level. I personally don't care, the more games like BOTW the better and again BOTW didn't invent gliding, swimming, climbing (although the climbing animations look like they just ripped the data from Link's Animations) etc. But it did it well and this game seems to want to take what Zelda did...and not change much.

Yeah, it looks like they copy-pasted the environmental graphics and rearranged the map around, changed the enemy textures (the first ennemies in the trailer still look like moglins) but kept the animations and some other systems from the game, including the fire physics from what I could see in the trailer, and give it a more musou inspired gameplay. That they kept the food system almost 1:1 is really shameless.

Imitation is the greatest from of flattery, but this is not imitation, this is taking from another and selling it as their own. That should definitely qualify as plagiat.

So inspired it looks like they reutilized part of the map in BOTW in certain locations, the UI is disturbingly similar, some weather and visual effects looks litteraly borrowed from and the ennemy design for some of these monsters do actually look ripoff from BOTW's roster.

It's obviously a ripoff, I mean knowing the game was made in China signifies it can do whatever it wants but I'm glad so of these people voiced such opinions to criticize the devs ... I honestly wouldn't go and break my console though xD

It's Ok he most likely smashed his PS4, knockoff while protesting another knockoff.

If anything Sony already copied Breath of The Wild with Horizon Zero Dawn.

Nintendo invented everything.
