OT: Like Matt, I'll decide when I see if it warrants the price. I'd happily pay a bit more to have locked 60 fps but I hope they manage to keep it at $499. I think $549 or $599 would scare away a lot of potential customers which could affect the diversity of its game library negatively.

Sounds fair, you can still buy a PS4 for 250$ and it will be supported for at least 5 more years.

I stand by it.  I recall people being stunned at the prices for the Vita and ps4.  Both came in way under what most were predicting.  I don't see prices changing in any great deal.

Especially since Sony can mitigate loss on hardware with PSN+ subscriptions.  Sony launched a highly expensive console with the ps3, it didn't turn out well, not until prices were slashed.

I bought my PS4 at launch for 400$ when the canadian dollar was at par. 500 USD is currently 660 CAD. I already have some money set aside but that's a lot!

500 bucks minimum is a 100% certainty. With the possibility of being even over 500. Ps4 hardware was pretty sub par for its time, Sony was traumatized by how expensive PS3 was at launch and decided to go for lower specs. But this time they are betting on top tier specs again, aiming for the hardcore graphic whore gamer.

I never did understand this line of argument since it's almost always an apples to hamburgers comparison. I might spend $350 on a single gold coin, but spending $100 on a penny made of zinc with a coating of copper is madness unless said penny is some weird mint rarity. Spending a couple grand going someplace I've never been that's far away is worth it, spending $500 on a video game player is something I'm going to look a little harder at, especially when returns are diminishing with every generation.

Again, that was FOUR years ago. I can somewhat understand the Switch being priced at $299 at launch, but we are two years in now.
