Post a summary with the average prediction, how % were below or above the average, etc.

From 100 posts I think majority said below 2mil.

My memory from that time is that most expected mild sales. I don't remember how much I forecasted, but certainly much lower than what it reached.

Aw man, this thread is a goldmine...

Nope, doubt it will even sell a million honestly. I'm expecting W101 numbers...

Nogamez said:
No way too much maybe 650k lifetime

NobleTeam360 said:
Nope, then again I don't think it'll even hit 750k.

Maybe one million.

JWeinCom said:
It's a niche sort of game, but it should have good word of mouth. A million would be a pretty big success. I'd guess 750K.

sundin13 said:
Not a chance, imo. It will be lucky to break 1mil and I think it will probably end around 850k.

Angelv577 said:
it should sell around 700k-1m LT.

gergroy said:

I'm guessing splatoon sells 400-500k physically and adds another 100-200k digitally.  It really isn't that unreasonable of a prediction like some people are making it out to be...

Mr.Playstation said:

Probably will end up at around 700K to 1.2M.

Dr.Vita said:
No way, it will be even hard to sell 1.5M!

lol OP are you being serious?

The game has bomba written all over it

My prediction is 700k LTD WW

For starters, you're comparing shipped numbers vs sold to consumers numbers. Second, despite launching both in 2017, Horizon numbers are as of Feb 2019 while Splatoon 2 numbers are as of end of June 2019. And God of War launched a complete year later, so....

Another ridiculous notion that i'm tired of hearing everywhere is that every Nintendo game is sold at 60$ for eternity and each Sony game ends at garbage bin price in just a few months. That's not true, period. Like Banaking has said earlier, Sony games can be very cheap with offers on PS Store because is absolute pure profit for Sony. Digital works very different than retail. And you can find cheap Splatoon 2, GOW and HZD in a stores everywhere if you like...

And for last....those PS4 games are still selling too. You're the kind of person when TLOU and Uncharted 4 sales news came could not believe those games sold that much, because how???, "Sony games have not legs!!", and that's because Sony doesn't care to update sales from their games as much as Nintendo, but because they don't do that it doesn't mean they are not selling well too.

Splatoon 2 must be around 8-8'5M sold to consumers which amazing on its own merit and it's going to surpass 10M, but Horizon Zero Dawn can be perfectly around 12M right now, and GOW should be close to that too. Those games keep selling, like Spider-Man and will probably end with more than 15M each. And i'm not entering in the theory that Sony games have way more competion on PS4 than Nintendo games on Switch because i know some people here don't want to accept that at all, but in my opinion it's something really to take into account.

I'm not sure what it is you are arguing here.  I'm not using the term "garbage bin price" as you stated mind you, just pointing out that Splatoon 2 and other Switch launch year titles are in fact sold new at retail for much higher than Horizon Zero Dawn, God of War, and even Spider-man which is the most recent release of the bunch:

Good work on listing every game and their prices. I know it must have cost you some time to do it. Sony games tend to lower the price earlier and have more times deals that put the game below 30 dollars/euros, yes, but most of those games are 1-2 year old already, and most of the sales for those games are in their first 6 months. But yes, Nintendo games are sold full price for more time. The part i was trying to say is that GOW, for example, does not sell 3M at full price and 7-8M at 20$.... That was my point. And besides, you can still find cheaper versions of those Switch games if you really look for. I did not search in USA because i am european, so here, believe me, i've seen those games cheaper than on that list numerous times.

I was no denying Nintendo games can be at full price years later as much as i was denying the notion that PS games were at "garbage bin price" (it was just an exaggeration to put some emphasis, don't take that seriously) in month 3 or 4.

Splatoon also surely cost a lot less to make and is still full price. Meanwhile HZD has been dirt cheap for the Complete Edition for awhile now and even GoW retails for half price nowadays.

Yes it's definitely true. Nintendo games make a lot more revenue even though Sony is somewhat rivaling them on sheer numbers now. Still it's great to have at least two companies having massive success with their first party games both critically and commercially.

Nintendo is the only publisher that doesn't cut their prices, and while that's great for business it's annoying as a customer.

I like how people brag and even think it is good for them that Nintendo don't do price cuts on older games.

As a consumer it can certainly be a good thing that the prices stay high because that means quality is there. If a Nintendo game is shit, the price drops. A vast majority do not drop.

1-2-Switch is still expensive.

I think it should be added that if a Nintendo game is mediocre/bad and doesn't sell, then, yes, the price drops.

Star Fox Zero is an example of that.

However, 1-2 Switch is still selling rather well, despite being a mediocre launch title. Some will wonder, why? Who knows, one man's trash is one man's treasure, or in the case of 1-2 Switch, its a title with some worth for some of the Switch user base.
