Yeah the more I read into it the more it seems less a case of insurmountable technological barriers and more a case of the guys at this studio Nerve just not doing a very good job for whatever reason, be it constraints in time or resources or just bad choices.

Lucky Doom 3 was given over to Panic Button, they almost always do solid to exemplary work.

Same for me. Well, looks like Bethesda really had to pull an EA again and piss everyone off

Yeah they seem to be on everyone's shitlist of late. Wolfenstein Youngblood annoyed a lot of people too. Again, Panic Button to the rescue; whatever the problems with the core game their port of it to Switch was at least a solid conversion.

Thankfully I don't see any red flags for Doom Eternal so far. It's still my most anticipated game, and with id and PB at the helm I see no reason to worry.

Does anyone happen to know if Doom 1/2 have been patched yet to allow you into the games without the online check? It's not as bad in Doom 3 but that game hasn't been patched yet, I'm wondering would 1/2 be patched faster because the videos I've seen of it popping up every 10 secs if you put the system into sleep mode looks insanely annoying and I don't wanna be buying a game I can't play while traveling or that I have to restart if I put the system to sleep for a minute.

Appreciate the replies if anyone has info!

Bestheda said they'd let us know when it's fixed, and nothing yet, so I assume it's still in the works. Weird that something so simple is taking so long.

That's fairly sad when you consider that a hobbyist on youtube made this video a while ago

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F4Dv32-PoU4

Worst thing is, his version runs better than the one they released as well... They couldn't even knock out 45 mins of quality work.

Ta for the reply though! I'll keep hold of my 4.99 for another while!

Never ceases to amaze me how amateurs can often do a far better job of these things than whole companies of professionals.

This is easily explained. As amateurs put their spare time into it and get no money in return, their gratification is gratitude and praise from others (externally) and the feeling to accomplished something (internal gratification). Both these gratifications increase with the amount of care put into work. For companies more care means more money they spend on the product (as they pay employees to put the care into it), so it is often enough cut. So the only thing limiting possible result of amateurs is skill and resources. There are very skilled people out there and working on software takes especially these days much less resources than say building a car.

Don't blame the professionals, they probably could do that, too. At least most of the time. Blame their managers who don't know a fuck about programming yet think they know better what to do and how to do it best. Of course the programmers have to follow those guidelines, even when they know they're misleaded.

Yeah... bringing old Doom to new systems would probably have been easier if not for the company mandate to have 2019 horrific always online DRM and online account rubbish injected into a game from 1993.

It must have been like trying to mix oil and water and sell the water as drinkable.... (okay.... just thinking that would almost be easyish to do since they wouldn't combine and the water should remain free of oil, but.... you get what I mean!)

And to add insult to injury, a game from 1993 that they didn't even make. This on top of all the other bullshit they've tried to pull in just the last year alone.

You can't spell Bethesda without EA is quickly becoming a meme on the internet (on top of all the other memes, LOL).

Seriously, at that speed, EA will be able to say "at least we're not Bethesda" in a couple months time
