Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Fire Emblem Three Houses reviews: Meta: 89, OC: 89

I typically only read the 1st and second paragraph of Kotaku, Destructoid, and Polygon reviews for games I'm interested in to avoid spoilers and I can't believe how bad I got spoiled reading the beginning of that Kotaku review.  So pissed.

I haven't ever cared much for the Fire Emblem IP that I actually had no idea this was about to get released. Cool stuff. I was hoping to come to discover that it comes out today so that I have something to look forward to playing when I get home from work, but tomorrow is still quite a great surprise. The only other game I've played in the series is Fates Conquest, and I made it to one of the very last missions in the game and still somehow never finished it.

I was fully prepared for Fire Emblem: Three Houses to be underwhelming and a rough transition from handheld, but it's already got a 87 meta and a 95 from Destructoid. About as good a result I could've hoped for. Great start to the day, can't wait to try it for myself.

The series has been on consoles for decades transitioning from handhelds was never going to be a problem.

Super excited for this. Used a voucher on this and have it preloaded. Will be my first FE since Radiant dawn.(skipped the 3ds games as I just didn't like gaming on it) I think I will chose Golden deer for my first playthrough

Odd, I was told by a VG expert that FE 3 Houses was lazy and uninspired.

"The saddest part about this is that two of those games have been received quite poorly by their fanbase and are seen as unambitious cash grabs"

Lol.

I wonder who would've said that.

By the way, a lot of the Fire Emblem fanbase hates Fates, and it had a similar critical reception.

Edit: and even more by the way, Pokémon Sword/Shield will get a 86 metascore. It doesn't change the fact that it's been received poorly by the fanbase and is an unambitious cash grab.

I believe it was you.

And what this proves is two things:

1) A small percent of the population having a loud voice isn't indicative of reality

2) Don't review games prior to release

I still recall all the *****ing and moaning with Mario vs Rabbids was announced, turned out to be a fantastic game.  Fact of the matter is hardcore fans exaggerate opinions online.  Wasn't MHW the end of the world when it was first announced?

Three houses and SWSH will both be a treat to fans, I can’t wait

A lot of the Fire Emblem fanbase dug itself a hole with the complaints about the three campaigns before the release of Fates. They decided that they couldn't go back on that and kept hating despite Fates being easily the best Fire Emblem on the 3DS. Although not as good overall as Fire Emblem (GBA), Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn.

Anyway, since the nutjobs among the Fire Emblem fanbase value story over gameplay (as seen by the love for Shadows of Valentia which was comfortably the worst Fire Emblem game released in America and Europe), Three Houses is bound to get rated highly by them.

Wii's Fire Emblem was an easy walk in the park. They gave you extremely OP units from the get go.

I wish Nintendo would use Anti Aliasing..... more than the graphics or resolutions, the jaggies on those selection box's is displeaseing I feel.
Like alot of people have played the 3DS and put up with it, but I feel like now that its on Switch, it shouldnt have such issues.

Sounds like you played the game on easy difficulty. We've had people on this forum who quit the game because they couldn't handle normal difficulty. Only few actually beat the game on hard.

Also, Part I of Radiant Dawn is considered the hardest one because the initial squad around Micaiah is so outpowered by the enemies. If someone opts to use the more powerful units in the latter half of Part I, they'll be in for a surprise in Part III when the powerful units are mostly not available and the usage of the initial squad is mandatory.

I played it on Normal, but didn't get very far. Maybe got about 15 to 20 hours in. The game was just too easy. I used the Dragon/Lance character to bowl over everybody. I'll give Wii's Fire Emblem another shot though. Maybe I'll like it this time.
