Forums - Sales Discussion - Japan Sales Week 29, Jul 15 - 21 2019, Famitsu

I'll never get why people like baseball games (or baseball period for that matter) but it seems it is popular in Japan. Not a very impressive start for Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3, wonder if it'll do better in the west.

I guess Japan likes baseball while Europe likes soccer while America likes football. It is interesting how the markets can be so different with sports games. Not that it matters, but I'm an American, and while growing up I played baseball for two seasons (even made it onto the "all-star" team, although I must have been twelve), basketball for one season, soccer for over ten years, and never played football. I certainly prefer soccer to play, but when it comes to watching sports I'd probably pass. Just not interested.

Such a big push in software sales on the PS4 and yet such a small increase in hardware sales...

Switch going down, but with Lite and new model, that was expected. In fact, it went down much less than I anticipated (I thought 35-40k for this week).

MUA3 did rather bad in Japan. Well, maybe it's going to have good legs.

I expected much worse for the switch hardware sales than what we got

Awesome legs for SMM2! And I also see YW4 not dropping the top 10 yet.....

The same?  Why would a baseball game that probably had other releases before on PS4 boost the PS4 sales?

Funfact: MUA3 had the highest opening for the franchise.

Funfact: The previous highest opening for Pro Baseball Spirits on a single platform was just under 110k.

And there haven't been a massive explosion of baseball movies or anything to expand the potential audience.

I mean, basically no boost, PS4 is long dead in that region.

I mean, the people who wanted a PS4 at the price they are currently selling them likely already have one. You're not going to see any significant increase until Sony drops the price.

But one thing certainly isn't dead, and that's new releases of PS4 software. PS4 absolutely dominates Japanese software sales of titles released in 2019.
