Forums - Nintendo Discussion - What would the Switch's 2019 first party lineup look like if there was still a seperate handheld and console platform?

One main benefit of the Nintendo Switch is that its hybrid nature allows for 95% of Nintendo's output to be consolidated to just one system. That means no more painful 3-5 month software droughts of absolutely nothing to play from Nintendo themselves. So far, Nintendo's been good at keeping its promise of at least one release for the system per-month, in may cases more than that. But what if we still had a separate handheld and console platform for Nintendo, what would their first party lineup look like for 2019 if that was still the case? In my eyes, we'd end up with Something like this...

Handheld:
January - NSMB
Febuary - Tetris 99
March -
April - Box Boy + Box Girl
May -
June - Cadence of Hyrule, Super Mario Maker 2
July - Marvel Ultimate Aliance 3
August -
September - Link's Awakening
October -
November - Pokemon Sword and Shield

Console:
January -
Febuary -
March - Yoshi's Crafted World
April - Labo VR
May -
June -
July -
August - Astral Chain
September - Fire Emblem: Three Houses
October - Luigi's Mansion 3

Wouldn't Fire Emblem more likely be on the handheld, and Mario Maker on the console?

Super Mario Maker 2 would be a release for both and Fire Emblem would be made for handhelds with separate versions.

Either way, it's much preferable to have them all on one console.

Three Houses is a lot bigger in scope and scale vs. the 3DS games. So much so that IS needed Koei Tecmo's help to get it working. They wanted to make a more home console style FE game, so that's why I put it under the "Console Category". Mario Maker is a game that's better suited for handheld/mobile play than consoles IMO, especially with a touchscreen, so that's why I put it under Handheld.

Switch is doing the right thing by combining both markets to one console.... switch lite seems like a step in the wrong direction to me... but oh wells. As long as Nintendo doesn’t decide to do two different systems again next gen it will be fine.

It’s also evident that Fire Emblem Three Houses is bigger in scale because of the platform it’s on. It’s safe to assume that if Nintendo followed the same usual release schedule having two different platforms to support, FE would have been more traditional and handheld only.
