Well, next gen is coming soon.

probably can't come soon enough for them at this rate

Said this before, and I am going to tell it again. If MS does not manage to get their shit together next-gen, the Xbox brand is good as dead and will follow Nokia and Windows (for mobile) into the grave. No amount of second-rate studio purchase will mend the damage that was done in the past 7-8 years.

I might agree if they hadn't expanded the "Xbox" brand outside of their consoles. Their focus has shifted somewhat away from consoles and if next-gen they have a worse performance I imagine the presence and focus they have on console gaming will be very limited after that.

As long as they keep making gaming products in some capacity the Xbox brand will live on. Even if they stop making consoles they might still produce accessories and controllers under the Xbox brand. PC has an Xbox app for their games and gamepass, Xcloud will be xbox branded, etc. But in terms of relevance the Xbox brand is at it's lowest point since 2006 or earlier.

The actual figure for gaming revenue is on the gamebiz article.

"gaming revenue dropped 10% to $2 billion....  in revenue for the full year gaming represented $11.4 billion"

Nokia is rebounding pretty well now - though outside of the Microsoft ecosystem, of course.

That's what they get for having the audacity to release their game also on PC.

They should be xbox console only with mass advertising saying hey look buy me I'm an xbox console that has brilliant experiences only found on our console I will guarantee they would be successful

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk

really miss the VGCHARTZ of 2008 - 2013...

Yikes. Hopefully they rebound next gen.

I wonder if xbox will break 55M...

I think they have a chance to hit 55M, or at least close to this. Anyway, xbox will be under 60M for sure.

Seems in line with what you would expect at the end of the console generation.

I would agree if Scarlett were releasing this year.  Since it's releasing next year, Microsoft is mostly out of the console business until late 2020.  Sony kind of made the same mistake though.  PS4 sales are plummeting.

This is why I originally thought both Microsoft and Sony would release their next consoles this year.  That is the smartest strategy.  Instead they are just letting Switch dominate the marketplace for all of 2019 and 2020.

The PS4 has been doing just fine - keeping pace worldwide with the Switch in it's 6th year.  I think people are severely underestimating the power of a permanent PS4 price drop - which I think is coming real soon just in time for the holidays.  Look at what the PS4 just did on Prime Day - all models lit up the Amazon charts.  When the PS4 was $199 the previous 2 Black Fridays - Sony couldn't ship enough to keep up with demand.  If they stock up this holiday season, have a decent bundle (God of War, Spider-Man, Horizon: Zero Dawn combos) - along with an extended $199 price point - it will sell boatloads in Q4 all the way through to PS5 release.
