You know what really frustrates me with this thread? Why isn't Famistsu on Metacritic, or Opencritic? They've been around longer than almost anybody else. There are plenty of other foreign reviews on Opencritic. Why not Famitsu?

They made the mistake of openly admitting that their scores can be bought.

Or it's simply because Meta and Open don't approach outlets, but rather be the ones who get approached and then give their approval or not.

Yikes! They accept bribes? Source?

Higher than I expected for the Kill La Kill game. The footage I had seen previously looked really, really poor.

Fire Emblem will be 88-93 meta...bank on it.

Absolutely no way. I can see 88 being the best case scenario.

But why though?

Pocky Lover Boy!

Awakening got a 92% on metacritic and was considered the rebirth of a dead series with it's sweeping game mechanic changes. With Fire Emblem Fates' lukewarm critical reception, and the most recent entry Fire Emblem Echoes having an even worse reception and tepid sales compared to the previous two entries this game feels a lot like when Awakening launched but to a lesser degree. Famitsu giving it the highest score they have gave a Fire Emblem game and positive previews on western media is a good sign.

Can't wait for Fire Emblem.

The bar for RPG's has raised a lot since Awakening. Persona 5 is one of the most polished and well designed JRPG's of recent years and it managed to score a 93. Three Houses looks small and clunky in comparison.

Being a big srpg fan I tried fire emblem on GameCube, I was extremely underwhelmed and give up on the franchise, but if this game gets great reviews in the west I will try it.
I wouldn’t trust Famitsu too much they gave one of the ff13 sequels a 40.

The two aren't really comparable genres. Fire Emblem is much more of a strategy game than a standard JRPG, having more in common with X-Com or Advanced Wars than something like Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest. Even if Persona 5 were some design marvel of the last generation (it really isn't, there are plenty of areas that could use a lot of tweaking/adjusting for P5R), it's unlikely that it would be taken into account for most reviews of Three Houses. Changes in a standard RPG are about as likely to affect reviews for FE as changes in FPS design would be to affect reviews for something like Deus Ex or Resident Evil.

I think FE will land between 79-85 on Metacritic.

Nahhhh you clearly haven't read the previews. Many are calling it the best fire emblem game to date.

I see it landing between 87 and 93
