Forums - Sales Discussion - Global Hardware 29 June 2019

If Switch stays above 200k throughout July and August I'll be impressed. If it dips below that i early Sept that'd be understandable, Japan especially is gonna hold their breath for the Lite.

I seriously think Nintendo are gonna have supply issues again from the release of Lite to the end of the year; Switch's sales were already really good, add both a $200 revision and the absolute onslaught of games it's getting in the last four months of the year, including Pokemon, Dragon Quest, and Luigi's Mansion, and I can see them having serious trouble keeping up with demand.

It's fairly insane, but if you take away the 60k sold in Japan this week, like... if literally 0 systems sold there, then the system would have still sold 230k Globally, the Switch has such a wide appeal to all markets they've really made a product which customers worldwide are happy with for all the different modes of play it allows.

Regarding the supply issues, don't forget that Nintendo are likely to have been pumping out Switch Lite hardware from their new manufacturing plants and they've moved some production from China to other regions just to make sure they've got stock which can sail into the US without being touched by any crazy border taxes if that becomes the issue it might do, the side result of this will mean that they've got more power to produce more of the systems.

In the week of Pokemon though... I think we're going to see a Holiday season number set by the Switch, I mean, deep holidays figure with 7 digits in it.

I think its fair to use the word "bad" to desribe how the xbox is currently selling.

I meant not bad overall. Not specifically talking about Xbox.

My thinking with overall was "everyone did atleast okay".
Not bad overall = everyone did okayish (or atleast not bad).

I just think its wrong to use it like that "not bad overall", when thats not actually true imo.

I don't know if that was his intention, but I interpreted that last sentence as not bad in total, meaning when you add all consoles together. This would bring you to about 500k consoles sold that week, which truly ain't half bad.

Thank you. That's exactly what I meant.

Isnt that the wrong way to use "overall not bad" though?

It was missing a period (and possibly starting a new line) to make it clear that it didn't have anything to do with the previous part of the sentence. Also, you're missing an apostrophe

Yes, I agree.  In fact I've been saying this for a while now.  I think Nintendo is going to be in short supply around the holidays.  They only projected 18m for this fiscal year.  Is there any doubt that they will shoot far past that?  With the new models coming out, I just hope they've been building up a big inventory.

Pretty much; funnily enough, while they forecast 20 million for last year and fell way short due to their weak lineup, I actually think there's a decent chance they'll pass 20 million this FY while only forecasting 18 million. But only if they're smart enough to have anticipated this and built up supply accordingly.

This year's slate of software is much stronger than 2018's, and when you throw in the system's first hardware revision, at a very affordable $200 no less, it's potentially thermonuclear. I'd say Wii-tier sales aren't out of the question this holiday season if they play their cards right.

No it's not wrong. Overall, even if you're not including Xbox, could mean the majority (PS4 and Switch) did good.

With the new Switch announced + Switch Lite coming. I think it will have a bigger hit than this week. Unless retailers will start doing discounts or promotions for the OG Switch.

I'm not sure if the "new" base Switch will have that much of an impact as it's not being marketed as an upgrade so the average consumer likely knows nothing about it.
