Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo Switch Lite Officially Revealed - $199, September 20th, Dedicated Handheld

It's official names is Nintendo " Un Switch" Switch version that cannot Switch into docking mode, It's the same like Nintendo 2DS basically, a 3DS version that cannot do 3D. it's just Nintendo being Nintendo.

Actually i prefer this device compared to Nintendo Switch, since i got Vita, PSP and Gameboy Advance vibe esque from it's design and focus on pure handled powerhouse with no gimmick . This lite version just shows and confirm that Switch is really a handheld device since day one. Because by spec wise it is a handled . Even though it can upscale and connect to TV it's just a handled with a function to play on the monitor.

I think like it already , but i just wished they include at least the rumble feature with gyro and accelerometer. I do love how they are now replace the d-pad with real D- Pad because now it cannot detach , and only function as solely for d-pad. The batteries though it's not that different only increase 1 hours, i want at least 4/5 to 9 hours battery life, since it focus for mobile only. everything else is good and decent looking forward for this.

EDIT: I think one for sure, Nintendo Officially kill the 3DS/2DS family. Welcome the new handled king by default

Very much as I expected. "Switch" is a brandname at this point and not indicative of it's functionality.

I wonder if they'll also release a dedicated home "Switch".

Probably the dedicated home console of Switch  would fit for the "pro" version. But i wonder how powerful it might be. Probably it will able to play the games on 1080p at 60 fps or even 4k but with the same graphic features. But with sacrifice of being " handled " . LOL if it's true that would be hilarious

The PSP was $250.  In comparison the Switch offers:

1) Better graphics

2) Larger screen

3) Higher resolution screen

4) Removable controllers

5) Ability to play at home via a dock

6) Touch Screen

7) Dual Analog

And the conclusion is the Switch is overpriced?  Yeah, you are clueless.  I love how Nintendo is suppose to offer easily the stronger dedicated portable gaming device, while having functionality at home, but some how the price should be less than the PSP.....

Nope, I know how much tech components etc cost. You measure it however you want cupcake. I salute you on your defensive though, gotta bring in a Sony product which nobody was even discussing (For the record, that was a con as well)

Moderated - think-man

Good point buttercup, I'm sure you know all the details for all the technology the Switch.

Could a 4K hybrid device like a supposed Switch Pro cost at a reasonable price? If the PS5 and Xbox Scarlet are what they are rumored/confirmed to be, they could be in the $400-500 price range. I don't suspect a 4K device that can be taken on the go or played on a TV could cost less than $300 (or even $350) unless Nintendo is willing to sell at a loss, in which I doubt they would be, just to sell a console. If they ensured that the OG Switch would not sell at a loss, I am not sure if they are willing to steer away from that.

Seems like a great way for Nintendo to send the 3DS off and give everyone a damn good new portable to use. Gonna sell gangbusters.

It actually makes no sense for the Lite to have docking features. Not sure why people are acting surprised that it doesn't.

Say the Lite did have the ability to dock, you'd still have to buy a dock ($60-80 bucks) and either joy cons or a pro controller ($70-80). You're better off just buying the flagship system.

Nintendo is creating distinct markets for each device, the Lite is for the Pokemon/AC crowd that will play those games and probably put it in the garage somewhere afterwards. The flagship is for more serious gamers and for casuals that want to play Smash, MK, Mario Party etc; locally with their friends.

3-7 hours instead of 2.5-6.5 hours. Not a massive increase but a bit better.

Did they really improve the battery, it just seems to have the same battery but because it is smaller and use less features it needs less of the battery. Not that I am complaining but an improved battery would have been welcome.

The chip is more efficient, spends less battery and heat less. Seems the battery might even be smaller, both in size and miliampere Hour...

All major handhelds and their launch prices adjusted for inflation (US launch dates).

System Manu. Year Launch 2019
TurboExpress NEC 1991 $249 $468
Lynx Atari 1989 $179 $369
PSP Sony 2005 $249 $326
Switch Nintendo 2017 $299 $312
3DS Nintendo 2011 $249 $283
Game Gear Sega 1991 $149 $280
Vita Sony 2012 $249 $277
3DS XL Nintendo 2012 $199 $222
New 3DS XL Nintendo 2015 $199 $215
DS Nintendo 2004 $149 $202
Switch Lite Nintendo 2019 $199 $199
GB Nintendo 1989 $89 $183
DS Lite Nintendo 2006 $129 $163
New 2DS XL Nintendo 2017 $149 $155

2DS Nintendo 2013 $129 $141
GBA SP Nintendo 2003 $99 $137
GB Micro Nintendo 2005 $99 $129
GBC Nintendo 1998 $69 $108

Given the Switch has dual functionality it appears leveraging the inflation data, the Switch in fact is in alignment. Shocking.

It could be like the original , a " hybrid" but  the batteries will be one hours and half, the spec will not that great and the size will be bigger than this (to accommodate slightly bigger CPU/GPU and cooling )  . From  what i see with how the lite version ended up with , it's safe to say the "pro" version will end up sacrifice some feature to get other feature. The reason why Switch able to be mobile because it has an old spec that can be considered low end and require less power tdp. Having powerful Switch version will make even power hungry , more bigger size and more expensive. By eliminating the the "hybrid " feature or the "handled " feature, Nintendo can go with higher spec for the pro version without worrying batteries, size, and price.
