IMO they should keep it Scarlet only so it isnt held back by the original XBO. That would've been a great move.

Now my theory is that Infinite will run at 30 fps on vanilla Xbox One so they can push the scope further (Halo 5 ran at 60)

If they were creating a game that was far more demanding than X1 could handle at any level, that might be a good idea. However, given this game started development on X1 and will likely be a pretty standard Halo FPS game, I don't think X1 is holding this project back per se.

If the campaign is only 30 fps on a base X1, that's fine. Maybe it could be more like the recent Battlefield games, which actually do a surprisingly good job hitting 60 fps with impressive visuals.

I'm suggesting if you're care enough to make a thread about it how about taking a side or simply giving thoughts on potential outcome of going either way.

You don't have to own a X1 to feel MS has some obligation to give Xbox One owners the next Halo, the game they promised to X1 owners. Maybe some feel the Xbox One was a failure and they should move forward, but that would also be punishing the Xbox One owners.

I just wanted to see what other people thought about the idea. It doesn't affect me personally.

I think you're missing the point...

If I cared enough to make a thread I might have some thoughts. Why do you care about the opinions on this thing you can't even bother to form a thought on?

Perhaps you were bored and just wanted to make a thread, but at least try to give it a little thought.

Id say yes, great incentive to move people forward.

Yeah, they will be glad to move forward after having what is potentially the biggest X1 exclusive cancelled.

Hence, they should appease the people that bought X1 as well given they were promised this game.

Ideally, Infinite should be next-gen exclusive. It would mean that the game wouldn't be held back by weak soon-to-be-last-gen specs (I mean, it has to work on the base model, not just the One X), and it could drive up sales of the Scarlett big time as it would be a major AAA first-party title.

But given what has already transpired with the game's development, it should remain cross-gen. Cancelling the XBO version after it had already been announced would probably build a lot of ill will towards fans who might not have wanted a Scarlett at launch. Also, the game has already been developed with cross-gen in mind, and scrapping the XBO version to make the Scarlett version as pretty as possible may result in the game being delayed. The game will still sell well regardless. The Slipspace Engine will probably be scalable, allowing 343 Industries to get the Scarlett version looking reasonably pretty for an early next-gen title, and there's a good chance the Scarlett version will outsell the XBO version anyway if the (admittedly very limited) history of cross-gen exclusives is anything to go by.

Nah, it would be a dick move to their XBO install base.

That's business, and we cannot hold a company ransom because of X1 adopters. Bring on next gen.

I want to say yes, but then again I don't think it's going to make a massive difference to sales of the next console. I think most players who would buy the next xbox at launch to play Halo would do it even if they can play the game on XBO. Early adopters will buy it anyway.

Predictions (Made July 2019)

LTD: PS4 - 130m, Switch - 110m, XBO - 52m       2019 : PS4 - 15m, Switch - 18.8m, XBO - 4.8m        2020: Switch - 22m (Peak Year)

That's a question that Microsoft had to answer before they made the announcement that the game will be cross-gen. They stuck to their guns of "it's not important to sell as many Xbox consoles as possible."

Of course it would have been smarter to make the next Halo exclusive to the new console, as in true exclusive, so not even putting the game on the PC. But with the announcement being made as it was, it would now be stupid to go back on that because it's bad for reputation and goodwill.

Legend11 correctly predicted that GTA IV (360+PS3) would outsell SSBB. I was wrong.

Whatever happens it'll be too late now. There's no way a year out they could decide to drop current gen and improve it enough for next gen to take full advantage.

It'll be out on PC regardless and the Current gen is basically a PC so it'll not make much difference anyway I'd be surprised if they dropped it.

You mean to promise their customers a game for more than two years on an specific console and then all of a sudden tell them that they would not be able to play it unless they buy a new one? Sure, why not? What could possibly go wrong?

In all seriousness though, no console maker should ever do that. EVER.

Nintendo might be able to get away with it given how... supportive Nintendo fans are; but MS would not. The media would eat them alive and their haters would not shut up about it for all eternity.
