Did the improved Switch improve sales? I didn't think so looking at the numbers. They didn't even market it. I bet there are many more people that knew about the Wii U over the better battery Switch, and that is saying something. The PS4 pro, everyone and the mothers knew about. So those aren't really fairly comparable.

It did, at least in Japan.

From April 1-Aug 25 it averaged 42.5k/week.

The hybrid model has averaged 70k in the 4 weeks since the improved model launched.

As for the US, it's hard to tell but comparing the July to Aug drop from 2018 to 2019 might give us an idea.

July 2018-263k (Octopath #1, Captain Toad #14)

Aug 2018-203k (MH Generations #14)

July 2019-~250k (Fire Emblem #2, Marvel #4)

Aug 2019-~240k (Astral Chain #10)

Last year had a ~23k MoM drop while this year had a ~4% drop, and looking at YoY July was down ~5% while Aug was up ~18%.

Similar software performance from new titles so I think the MoM/YoY differences are due the improved model.

Astral Chain is no doubt a bigger system seller than MH Generations ( re release of a mostly Japanese only appealing series.

Sure, but it's not nearly big enough to move that many units, especially since it only had 2 days of tracking.

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

Yeah Switch is doing better than i expected this year, in USA it will totally crush PS4 sales. September is an easy +400K month, probabily +500K.

Q4 will be easy up YOY compared to the 3.4M of 2018, and PS4 in 2016 only didn't even sold 3 million.

Updated the OP with September estimates from Era.

570k lead and Pokemon and the holiday season are yet to come... yeah, I don't see the Switch losing that one anymore.

Updated with recent NPD leaks.

-Switch's 2019 easily beats PS4's 2016. Both consoles got revisions (Switch Lite, PS4 Slim, PS4 Pro)
-Switch managed to sell 2 million in December, making it the first console to do so since the Wii in 2010.
-Switch selling 6.5 million in 2019 is larger than any year PS4 has done. Its also the highest yearly sales since 2011.

Thanks for the comparation, was interesting to see.

Good thread that was fun to follow throughout the year. If you eventually do a similar thread for Switch 2020 vs PS4 2017, can you post the link here?

Nice thread

These results should silence all who doubted that Switch can beat the PS4's lifetime sales in the USA.

How much do you think Switch will end up at the end(USA)?
