Super Mario Bros it not only launched the NES but did so in a time when gaming was in serious trouble.

It almost single handedly saved the US video game market and by extension parts of the world.

Your reasoning for "first among dedicated gamers" applies much, much more to Super Mario Bros.

No, it doesn't.

Yes it does.

Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-5643-2927-1984

Animal Crossing NH Dream Address: DA-1078-9916-3261

I would say consistently Nintendo have the best launch games.

Azzanation: "PS5 wouldn't sold out at launch without scalpers."

It also ended the era of gaming computers in Europe, as a game the are obviously others I prefer like BOTW but SMB did something on a level no other launch title can touch as it was also the game that changed up how developers designed their games.

I agree completely. What many people don't seem to grasp is the impact as a game SMB had on other games. A whole genre defined and spearheaded by this one game, inspiring many others. For example, when SMB3 came out, John Carmack from ID wanted to see if he could make a game with scrolling levels (platformers were confined to screen by screen on computers until then) and he remade SMB3 on the computer. Eventually this development resulted in Wolfenstein, Doom etc. games that were very influential in their own right.

It’s interesting to see that no Sony console has launched with a killer game, despite sony’s Almost flawless console history. Sony’s consoles usually have a very slow start, while Nintendo consoles usually have a great start and slow down with time.

Not really - ZX and C64 were kings of gaming in Europe in 80s, NES did start to seriously chip away that market, but I'd say that SEGA Mega Drive and SNES were what brought computer gaming to its knees in late 80s/early 90s...at least until PCs regained some of that lost ground later on.

NES didn't release in Europe until mid to late 80s with the earliest releases being in late 1986 with some countries having to wait until 1988 it's the platform that triggered computer gaming to struggle the late release in Europe was why computer gaming had a good stint as the were no active consoles around before NES after the crash it's only really in the UK where computer gaming continued to put up a fight.

BotW. Before that, I would have said Super Mario 64.

Since I played TP on Gamecube and that seems to be the canon version judging by the HD release and the fact that it was the original version, I've always seen TP as a late Gamecube title rather than a Wii title. Yet I consider BotW a Switch title even though it started development on the Wii U version and that version was released.

Hell, the PS2 didn't have a single game from Sony the day it came out. Their first game was f'n Fantavision. How the heck do you launch the best selling console of all time and not have a single game of your own!?
