Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Bros., and Wii Sports.

Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Not only did it rightfully claim Game of the Year 2017, but it also served a major role in launching the Switch when many nay sayers tried to make claims that Nintendo had become irrelevant with the WiiU. It very well could be the most impactful launch title in gaming history IMO.

I can't believe I forgot to put Wii Sports in the poll! Argh!

I voted for Super Mario Bros, because it had a hand in saving the industry as we know it. Also, because going from Atari games to SMB was sheer insanity. Most atari games had 2-3 levels tops, and most of them didn't scroll. I remember Pitfall was the same three levels repeating over and over, just getting harder. SMB was revolutionary with its jumping physics, huge amount of levels compared to Atari games, and wonderful music.

BotW and Super Mario Bros.

2nd Generation: Donkey Kong (ColecoVision)

3rd Generation: Super Mario Bros. (NES)

4th Generation: Super Mario World (SNES)

5th Generation: Super Mario 64 (N64)

6th Generation: Either Sonic Adventure (Dreamcast), Luigi's Mansion (GCN), or Halo: Combat Evolved (Xbox)

7th Generation: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (Wii)

8th Generation: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Switch)

Overall, for its time: Either Super Mario World or The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Overall, to this day: Breath of the Wild obviously, though I'd still pop in just about any of these if the mood was right. The truly good games don't ever stop being good. That said nothing's wrong with playing more up-to-date versions of them. So those first three I'd probably play on the NES and SNES Classic, Super Mario 64 I'd play on DS, Sonic I'd play DX on Gamecube, Halo I'd play MCC, and Twilight Princess I'd play HD.

SM64: rung in the arrival of 3d gaming like no other by cementing the need for the thumbstick.

No contest, Breath of the Wild all day.

If I'd go full recency bias mode then BOTW is the obvious choice. Now historically, load of games could be beffited that title, SMB and SM64 for the platforming genre, VG renaissance and best introductory piece for 3D games back in the 90's, Halo can also be used for it's impact on the 1st person shooter genre and it's online multiplayer component.

These would be the one I choose.
